Montana Couple Adopts A Quiet Shelter Cat Then Gets The Shock Of Life At Home

If you’re looking for another heartwarming cat adoption story, this one is sure to brighten your day.
Let me introduce you to Cass, a delightful calico who spends her time playing with her dog companion Riley, chatting away with her humans, and soaking up every bit of love and admiration she’s certain is meant just for her.
However, she wasn’t always like this…

Cass’s adventure began during a Montana blizzard when she was rescued by dedicated cat enthusiasts and taken to Heart of the Valley animal shelter.
Meanwhile, her soon-to-be owners were busy settling into their new place together and tossing around the idea of bringing a cat into their lives as a sort of third roommate.
At first, Emily was unsure about adopting so soon, especially with their home still bare and unfinished, but her fiancé’s excitement slowly won her over.

When they finally visited the shelter, it felt like destiny. The moment they saw Cass, both of them fell in love instantly.
Because Cass was such a gentle, calm, and easygoing cat at the shelter, they didn’t hesitate to bring her home, happily closing the chapter on her shelter life.
But once she settled in, Cass wasted no time showing her true colors. To Emily and her fiancé’s surprise, their quiet little calico turned out to be full of personality — and quite the talker.

It seemed she had cleverly kept that side of herself tucked away until she found the right audience.
Reflecting on their early days together, Emily shared in a video:
“She was fairly docile when we first met her which is not what her personality is like.”
She later added:
“She greets us every time we come home. I’ll put her on the phone with my friends to say hi because she just talks all the time. It does feel very conversational.”

Turns out, Cass had everyone fooled with her quiet act at the shelter. But really, who can blame her? She was on a mission to find her forever Montana home, after all.
Not only is Cass talkative, but she also has no concept of personal space. According to Emily, she’s more than just a lap cat – she adores perching on people’s faces!
“When we first got her, she liked to sleep with her face on my face every night. I had to negotiate breathing with her because she would get so close to my face and I had to like scooch away, and then she would get up and get closer to my face again.”
Emily and her fiancé initially planned to keep Cass in one room for maybe a week to let her adjust to them and the sounds and smells of her new home.
However, that idea was quickly overruled by Cass’s desire to explore and be at the center of everything immediately.

About a year later, Emily and her fiancé welcomed a dog named Riley into their family. To their delight, he and Cass bonded right away, though as Emily admits, the two are still figuring out the finer points of cat-and-dog communication.
Whenever Riley gets a treat, Cass makes sure she gets one too. Emily jokes that Cass probably sees it as unfair if he’s rewarded and she isn’t — and she’s not about to let any injustice slide.
Luckily, treat time has never been a problem for these two — which is more than I can say for me and my own sibling.

Looking back, I think it’s safe to say Emily is glad she went along with her fiancé’s idea to adopt a cat. Cass, with her chatty personality and charming quirks, has brought so much joy into their home.
With both Cass and Riley as part of the family, Emily and her fiancé truly struck gold.
In the end, Emily and her fiancé didn’t just adopt a cat. Instead, they gained a loyal companion and a lifetime of happiness with Cass by their side.
