Office Workers Hear Strange Noises In The Ceiling Only To Find Seven Kittens Hidden Above

Have you ever heard a weird sound in your house and couldn’t figure out what it was? Well, imagine if that sound was the little pitter-patter of tiny feet coming from your office ceiling!
That’s exactly what happened at a car rental office, and what they found turned into a heartwarming, yet slightly crazy, rescue mission filled with ‘ceiling cats.’
Recently, the amazing people at the Orphan Kitten Project, which is run by vet students at UC Davis, got a really strange call.
It wasn’t about a kitten stuck in a tree or one found in a box; no, this was about some ‘ceiling cats’ that really needed help.

The workers at the car rental office had been hearing soft sounds – the tiny tap-tap-tap of kitten paws and little ‘mews’ coming from above.
They were puzzled about how to get to the kittens, so they thought they would just wait for the mother cat to bring her babies down, like a cat elevator service. But as the Orphan Kitten Project humorously shared in an interview:
“In classic kitten style, these kids did not wait around for that.”
Only kittens would have their own plans! The adventure kicked off with the smallest kitten, an orange tabby so tiny he was called ‘pocket-sized.’
This little guy decided that gravity didn’t apply to him and made a brave jump from the ceiling. Amazingly, he landed on the lobby floor without getting hurt at all.
The rescuers quickly picked up this brave little cat and took him to a safe foster home. They named him Jiggy, which is a perfect name for a kitten who clearly loves to live life on the edge (or rather, above it).
And Jiggy’s solo flight wasn’t a one-off. A few days later, one of his brothers decided to join in, showing that either they are really brave or maybe just not paying attention to where they are going.

These daring little kittens, in their own messy way, actually helped the rescuers find their secret hideout.
They discovered that about 10 feet up the wall, there was a small ledge with a hole that led into the ceiling and plumbing area – the perfect little nursery for a mama cat.
Now that the rescuers knew where the rest of the kittens were hiding, they came up with a smart plan to get them out.
So, the delicious smell of food became their secret weapon. One by one, the kittens, with their tiny noses sniffing the air, slowly came out from their hiding place in the ceiling.
The rescuers, equipped with a tall ladder and some sneaky moves, carefully grabbed each kitten as they peeked their little heads out.
Each time they rescued one kitten, another curious face would pop out. This kitten rescue operation continued until there was finally silence, and luckily, they had managed to save them all.

These adventurous little ones were then taken to loving foster homes, ready to discover life on the ground for the very first time.
However, the rescue mission didn’t just end with the kittens. A few days later, they managed to catch the feral mother cat.
They knew it was really important to stop her from having more kittens, so they had her spayed. This way, she wouldn’t keep having litters, and they could return her to the place where she lived.
The Orphan Kitten Project talked about how hard it can be to help kittens that have spent their first few weeks in a quiet, dark place with just their mom:
“Getting kittens to feel safe and confident in foster care after they’ve been living in a quiet, dark, cozy space with a mom and no humans for the first several weeks of life can be tricky.”
It takes a lot of patience and gentle encouragement to help them adjust. Jiggy, the brave little kitten who loved to jump around, seemed to enjoy being around people right away.

He quickly became comfortable and started to show his true self. Soon after, Pigeon, another adventurous kitten, joined him in foster care, probably because he wanted to hear more about life outside from Jiggy.
The rest of the kittens, known as the ‘ceiling seven,’ took their time getting used to their new home, and their unique personalities began to shine through as they settled in.
The foster parents were super important during this change. They were really patient and let the kittens take their time to feel safe.
By slowly introducing them to a calm home, it helped the kittens realize that humans can be loving and caring. This is all about building trust, one gentle pet and soothing purr at a time.

The best part? All seven ceiling kittens are now doing great in their foster homes. They are getting plenty of food and having fun zooming around, turning into happy, curious, and playful little cats.
Soon, some of them will be ready to find their forever homes! That little noise in the office ceiling ended up saving seven precious lives and giving their mom a brighter future. Thanks to the quick actions of the car rental workers and the hard work of the Orphan Kitten Project and their caring fosters, these kittens now have a whole new world to explore.
