Ohio Shelter Couldn’t Believe What Came After Scanning A Stray Dog’s Microchip

Shelter staff at Cleveland Animal Care and Control were just doing their usual routine when they brought in a stray dog. He looked sweet but tired, the kind of dog who’d clearly been through a lot.
They scanned him for a microchip, just like they always do, probably expecting nothing unusual. But this time, the scanner beeped, and everything changed.
They dialed the number connected to the chip, and on the other end was a man who had been missing his best friend for an entire year.
He never gave up and was in constant contact with the shelter, holding onto hope that one day his dog would find his way home.
Best Friends Animal Society, the animal-welfare organization from Utah, shared on Facebook:
“This sweet boy had been missing for an entire year. His owner never gave up hope though. In the year, he continued to look for his best friend, both in person and online.”
And now, out of nowhere, he was getting the call. Best Friends continued:
“When the scanner revealed that the dog did indeed have a chip, they had no idea just how BIG the reunion they were about to facilitate was going to be.”
When the owner arrived at the shelter, the dog didn’t need a single second to recognize him. The moment he walked through those doors, that tail started wagging so hard it could’ve powered a fan.
The dog sprinted across the floor, jumped into his owner’s arms, and covered him in the happiest kisses you’ve ever seen.
The whole room felt it, that warm, emotional punch that makes your chest tight and your eyes sting a little.
The video, shared by Best Friends Animal Society, blew up online. Over a million people watched that reunion, and you could almost feel their collective “aww” echoing through the comments.
People wrote things like how thankful they were for microchips and how they couldn’t imagine the relief that the owner must’ve felt after wondering for so long if his pup was even alive, as one user said:
“It crossed my mind that not only was dad happy to see her, but the feelings of not knowing if she was alive or safe, it was a relief too.”
