Peaches lost her home when her family’s house was foreclosed on. But a trip to a local veterinary clinic changed her life forever, revealing a unique purr and a surprising hidden trait.

At just one year old, a sweet cat named Peaches found her entire world turned upside down.

Her original owner’s house had been foreclosed on, leaving the family unable to care for her.

Through no fault of her own, the young feline was surrendered to a local humane society.

Despite the sudden loss of her home, Peaches was about to cross paths with someone who would change her life forever.

Healing At The Clinic

Rihanna, a veterinary assistant at a local animal clinic, first met Peaches when the humane society brought her in.

The clinic regularly provided vet checks and vaccines for the shelter’s recent surrenders.

Peaches ended up visiting the clinic a couple of times because she was battling a bacterial infection.

During those visits, the veterinary team worked diligently to treat the infection, and it didn’t take long for the sweet feline to capture Rihanna’s heart.

Finding Her Forever Home

Once Peaches was fully healthy and officially available for adoption, Rihanna knew exactly what she had to do.

She decided to adopt the beautiful cat herself and give her the second chance she deserved.

Bringing a new pet home always comes with an adjustment period, and Peaches was understandably nervous at first.

For the first two or three hours, the timid cat hid safely under a bed, but she immediately started feeling comfortable shortly after.

A Silent Secret

While Peaches was settling in beautifully, there was one major detail about her that the shelter had completely missed.

About a week into the adoption, Rihanna started to notice something unusual about her new companion’s reactions.

She tried talking to the cat while standing right behind her, but Peaches had no idea she was even there.

It was in that moment Rihanna figured it out: her sweet new rescue cat was completely deaf.

The Pigeon Purr

Her lack of hearing wasn’t the only unique thing about Peaches. She also had an incredibly distinct way of purring.

Everyone who meets her immediately becomes obsessed with what Rihanna affectionately calls her “pigeon purrs.”

Some people think the cat sounds like a cicada, while others compare the noise to a little dinosaur.

The funny sound is actually caused by an overgrowth of tissue, prompting Rihanna’s team to sometimes joke, “Is this really a cat?”

New Ways To Talk

Since Peaches can’t hear her name being called, Rihanna had to come up with creative new ways to communicate.

When Peaches is in a different room looking for her mom, Rihanna simply turns the room lights on and off.

The clever cat sees the flashing lights and immediately knows how to find her way back.

If the lights aren’t an option, Rihanna will stomp on the floor so Peaches can feel the vibrations and know exactly where she is.

A Tiny Limp

Just as they were settling into their new routine, another medical hurdle appeared.

Rihanna quickly noticed that Peaches had a very tiny limp on one of her back legs.

She brought her in for x-rays, which revealed that the head of one of her femurs hadn’t finished developing.

Fortunately, Rihanna works for an orthopedic veterinarian who was perfectly equipped to perform the hip surgery Peaches needed.

Friends With Everyone

Now fully healed, Peaches’ exceptionally friendly personality shines through every single day.

She absolutely loves every person she meets, and she is even wonderfully gentle with dogs.

When veterinarians bring their dogs into the clinic, Peaches just wants to play with their tails and sleep on their beds.

She also has a funny habit when someone opens a door; it takes her about three seconds to process that a person is there—like she is “buffering”—before she meows and runs over.

The Perfect Princess

Peaches is a very smart girl who knows exactly where her food is kept on the counter.

She even recognizes the box of her favorite Greenies treats, walking right up to Rihanna’s side the moment she grabs it.

While she is definitely a “mama’s girl,” she actually spends more time snuggling with her dad simply because he is warmer.

“If she could hear me,” Rihanna shared, “I would tell her she’s the best little baby princess.”
