A routine trip to run errands quickly turned into a life-saving mission for one observant woman.

While out and about, she spotted a solitary cat lingering behind a busy shopping center.

It was clear right away that this animal was in desperate need of a helping hand.

When she managed to get a closer look, her heart completely sank.

Half of the poor animal’s body was covered in severe, painful wounds.

He was so incredibly emaciated that she initially mistook him for a senior cat nearing the end of his life.

Knowing she had to act fast, she immediately ran down the street.

She grabbed some enticing cat food and a Havahart humane trap, determined to get this boy to safety.

She also called in her ultimate partner in crime: her mom.

Together, the mother-daughter duo set up the trap and began their vigil.

They sat and waited patiently for around six hours, hoping the hungry cat would take the bait.

Finally, the hesitant and hurting stray stepped inside the trap.

The sweet cat, now named Lester, spent four days stabilizing at the vet before he was finally ready to go home.

But his medical journey was far from over.

For weeks, Lester required daily sedated bandage changes to heal his extensive wounds.

A little over a month later, Lester hit a massive milestone: his bandages were finally able to come off.

However, his rescuers soon realized that Lester simply did not know how to be a cat.

When his foster mom tried to play with him using toys, he would just stare at them in complete confusion.

Everything began to change when Lester was introduced to the family’s other cat, Frog.

Lester would sit back and watch Frog play with intense curiosity.

Slowly but surely, the former street cat started to understand what playtime was all about.

It took a couple of weeks of observation and tentative play, but by November, Lester and Frog had become absolute best friends.

Through patience and companionship, Frog truly taught Lester how to enjoy his second chance.

After surviving the streets and a grueling recovery, Lester finally knows what it means to be a happy, carefree cat.
