When Alessia and Pat from Hawaii first adopted Hokule’a, he spent most of his time hiding under the bed.

Being a former stray cat, it took him some time to adjust to his new home and his parents. However, once he did warm up to them a special bond was created instantly.

Hokule’a started following his new parents around the house, always wanting to be as close to them as possible. As his dad Pat shared in a video:

“He would follow us everywhere. Even when we’d be in the shower, he’d get curious and wanna jump in the shower with us.”

It seemed like water didn’t bother Hokule’a at all, he even jumped in the shower, unlike other cats!

Since he enjoyed being around his parents and water, his dad Pat had a genius idea. Since Alessia and Pat are experienced surfers, they wondered if Hokule’a would enjoy the beach as well.

They decided to bring him along one day, to a calm beach with not so many people. At first, Hokule’a was amazed by the amount of sand around him, as Pat mentioned:

“When we got him there, we let him play on the sand, and to him, it was probably like a big cat box.”

Since Hokule’a was such a big water lover, it took him only a couple of minutes to come closer to the ocean. He adored the salty splashes on his whiskers, so his dad decided to bring him along on his surfboard.

Like a true professional, Hokule’a held onto the board like he’d done it a thousand times before!

With no fear of the water or the surfboard, he peacefully sat while his dad was catching some waves.

What amazed Alessia and Pat even more was the way little Hokule’a was swimming. As Alessia mentioned:

“He jumps from the board to the water, if I’m in the water, he just comes to me and then swims back to the board. And he’s very fast, it’s almost faster than me when he swims.”

This little fellow sure did have a hidden talent and he found the right family to share it with! As his dad also said:

“He didn’t seem to mind any water or splashes, and he just wanted to be close to us.”

His parents always make sure to shower him with fresh water afterwards and clean his paws from sand!
