Montgomery Rescuers Find A Senior Dog Dumped In A Park, Then Realize He’s Not A Stranger At All

Earlier, the staff at Montgomery County Animal Shelter (MCAS) received an urgent call about a senior black dog seen wandering alone in the park.

The rescue team didn’t waste a second. They rushed to the scene, hoping to reunite the lost pup with his family. But once they found him, they realized the truth was far more heartbreaking.

The dog wore a collar with tags, a clear proof that he had a home. Sadly, it appeared he’d been dumped by the very people who were supposed to care for him.

And then came an even more painful discovery: the rescuers knew this dog.

It turned out that the abandoned dog was a 10-year-old named Rigsby, who was a previous MCAS resident.

At that time, Rigsby managed to find a loving home, but it turned out that his happily-ever-after wasn’t what the rescuers thought it would be. Their hearts broke into pieces.

After identifying him, the team reached out to his former owners. MCAS volunteer Madeline shared:

“His owners were called, and they do not want him back. He is the sweetest guy and must be confused about why he’s back at the shelter he was adopted from…”

Despite everything, Rigsby lit up when he saw the rescuers. He remained gentle, loving, and eager for connection. Madeline added:

“He’s such an easy dude. I feel so badly for him and hope he can get a second chance for real this time.”

Rigsby went back to MCAS, and amazed everyone with his loving personality and skills he had learned with his family. Madeline shared:

“He is potty trained, has been quiet in his kennel and knows ‘sit’ and ‘shake.’ He’s sharing his kennel with another old man and does very well.”

But then came another hurdle. A full medical checkup revealed Rigsby would likely need a hospice foster home.

Finding a loving home for a senior dog was hard enough, and finding one for hospice care seemed nearly impossible.

Then, a bit of magic happened. There was a special person out there, looking from someone just like Rigsby.

MCAS received a call from a Texas organization called The Forgotten Pet Advocates (FPA), precisely from a longtime volunteer named Linda. They said:

“I saw this boy come up on the feed, and it was a meant-to-be moment. I knew he was the one.”

When Linda saw Rigsby’s photo, she instantly fell in love with him. He was the one she was looking for.

She decided not to waste time, so she arrived at the rescue with her other senior pup, Bently, to meet Rigsby. To everyone’s delight, the trio instantly clicked.

They were simply destined to be together and spend their golden years in the best way possible.

Linda signed the paperwork and headed home with a new family member. Thanks to her, Rigsby got a new chance at life, and a forever home that will be truly forever this time.

Soon, Linda shared an update on FPA on how they all adjusted to each other:

“Rigsby has settled right in perfectly, and Bentley is so happy to have him there! They sleep side by side, and Rigsby just wants to be near both his brother and his Mama! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy.”

After everything poor Rigsby had been through, the stars have finally aligned for him, and he’ll never have to worry about anything again, thanks to MCAS rescuers and his new human Linda.
