Male calicos are incredibly rare. Like, we’re talking less than one in a thousand rare. Almost every calico out there is a girl, which is why when a male pops up, it’s kind of a big deal.

In fact, people call them “money cats” or even “million-dollar cats” because of how unusual they are.

So, the girl in this story? She’s seriously lucky. She didn’t just meet one; she owns one! And that makes her part of a pretty exclusive little club.

It all started when a kind couple came across a tiny abandoned kitten.

Even though they didn’t have the money to get him to a vet, they brought him home, hoping they could at least give him some warmth, food, and a bit of comfort.

Turns out, for a male cat to have calico coloring, he has to be born with a super rare genetic condition called Klinefelter Syndrome, which means he has an extra X chromosome (XXY).

And because of that, male calicos can’t have kittens; they’re always sterile.

Watching Hunter grow and thrive brought so much joy into his owner’s life. He was a little light in her world, who gave her hope when she needed it most.

But life threw them another challenge. Hunter began having serious issues with one of his eyes, and the vet said it would have to be removed.
