Dog Left Outside South Carolina Shelter With A Devastating Note Saying ‘She Should Be Put Down’

Bringing a dog into your life is a beautiful thing. You’re not just gaining a pet; you’re gaining a friend, a companion, and a new family member.
But with that joy comes a responsibility that’s often overlooked: making sure your dog stays healthy and happy.
We don’t always think about the possibility that they might fall ill, but sometimes life throws curveballs.
Illnesses can sneak up unexpectedly, and when they do, it can be overwhelming, especially when the situation becomes serious.
This is exactly what happened to Remy, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix.

Her story began when a staff member from the Greenville Humane Society found her tied outside a shelter in South Carolina.
Along with her was a heartbreaking note, revealing the painful reality both Remy and her owner were facing.
Remy had a serious heart condition that was hard to treat. Her owner had done her best, but when finances became tight, she couldn’t afford the care Remy needed.
In desperation, she made the painful decision to leave her outside the shelter, hoping they could help her.
The note explained that Remy’s owner couldn’t take care of her anymore, as Remy’s condition seemed impossible to fix.
It even suggested putting her down as the only way to end her suffering.

The shelter staff didn’t judge. They didn’t see neglect; they saw someone who was heartbroken and simply didn’t know where to turn.
When Remy was brought in, the team quickly found out that she had a serious grade-six heart murmur and was dealing with skin problems.
Her heart condition was so severe that she needed an echocardiogram to check her health.
If surgery was necessary, it would come with a lot of challenges, or she might need medication for the rest of her life.
The shelter then launched a Hope Fund to raise the money needed for Remy’s treatment.

As time went on, the staff learned that Remy’s heart problems were caused by a condition called B1 degenerative valve disease.
While this was still a serious illness, there was a small relief, as the shelter explained in a Facebook post:
“She was determined to have Stage B1 degenerative valve disease which in turn was causing her heart murmur. This was a positive diagnosis for Remy, as it was determined she won’t currently require any additional surgeries or medication.”
She would still need regular medication to manage her heart and skin issues, but the team was hopeful she could lead a long, healthy life with the right care.

Although I don’t know exactly what happened to Remy after all of this, I like to think she’s surrounded by the caring people at the Greenville Humane Society, getting all the love and attention she needs.
Or maybe she’s found her forever home, where she’s living the happy life she’s always deserved.
Either way, I believe Remy’s journey is just beginning, and with the care she’s getting, there’s nothing but hope ahead for her.
Whatever her future holds, I’m sure the best is yet to come for this sweet dog.
