Missouri Construction Worker Freezes After Spotting A Tiny Creature Covered In Spray Foam

Construction zones aren’t usually places where you’d expect to find tiny paws and bushy tails. Yet sometimes, life throws in a surprise.

And for one busy contractor in Missouri, his usual workday turned into a little rescue mission that tugged at everyone’s heart.

He showed up ready to handle his usual checklist: tools, materials, and site safety. But before he could even pop open a foam insulation can, he noticed that a little squirrel family had somehow arrived at the construction site.

The man carefully guided them away from danger. Once the area was clear, or so he thought, he went back to work.

He shook the can of foam and started spraying it into a gap like usual. But hidden out of sight was one tiny straggler who hadn’t made it out in time.

The poor baby squirrel panicked and leaped straight into the sticky, still-wet foam.

Within seconds, he was completely covered in a thick coat of goo that would soon harden like stone. It was heartbreaking.

Thankfully, the contractor pulled off as much foam as he could, and rushed the terrified squirrel to the Wildlife Rescue Center. It was clear the little guy was in trouble, but he wasn’t alone.

The rescue team at MWRC took over from there, working carefully and calmly to help him out of his mess, as they shared in a Facebook post:

“The animal care team worked against the clock to carefully remove the foam using cotton swabs and vegetable oil before it fully hardened.”

Even though the squirrel’s fur was still coated in sticky foam, the rescue team stayed gentle and patient, knowing every move mattered.

They began by carefully cleaning his mouth and nose so he could breathe properly.  Then they softly wiped his eyes, making sure he could see again.

Bit by bit, the team worked their way across his tiny body, removing the rest of the sticky mess and doing all they could to keep him comfortable and safe.

To help ease the stress, they gave him a bit of pain relief so he could rest. They also kept a close watch on his eyes and mucous membranes to catch any signs of infection or further damage.

The little squirrel spent the night curled up in a blanket, surrounded by people determined to help him heal. By the next day, most of the foam was gone.

His skin was red and sensitive from the ordeal, but his spirit was already starting to bounce back. His little eyes looked brighter, and he was finally moving freely.

The team was thrilled to see how well he was doing after everything he’d been through, as they shared in an update post:

“We are still keeping a close eye on his condition and he has a long way to recovery, but we are amazed by his current progress.”

The little guy still has a long road to recovery, since healing takes time. But his caregivers remain hopeful.

Every small step he takes brings him closer to the day he’ll feel the earth under his paws again.

For now, he’s enjoying the snuggles, the care, and all the love he’s surrounded with. The team is cheering him on every step of the way, waiting for the moment he’s ready to jump back into the wild.
