Caring for the cats in your local area can be such a rewarding experience. Providing them with food and medical care can save these poor souls’ lives.
Today I’ll tell you about a stray cat that was saved by Will Zweigart. He is an amazing foster and rescue hero who has been helping stray cats in Brooklyn for more than 15 years!
The Brooklyn area is sadly overpopulated with stray cats who often live in colonies. Such a cat colony found refuge in Will’s backyard, where he feeds them every day.
However, one day Will noticed a ginger newcomer. He placed a camera outside to monitor him and soon found out something heartwarming.
Usually, the cat colony in his backyard would scare away any stray cat that tried taking a bite or two from their food dish. However, this time around they let the ginger fluffball join them.
While he was eating, Will noticed the poor boy had trouble breathing. Since he was an experienced fosterer he instantly recognized the signs of a respiratory infection. Will was determined to bring him to the vet as soon as possible.
However, trapping the cat was not an easy task. The poor soul was afraid of humans and Will figured out a way to gain his trust.
He placed the trap with some food inside, but he didn’t catch him on the first day. Will let the ginger fluffball eat inside the trap for days, before finally releasing the hatch!
Will named the ginger boy Julius and quickly brought him inside his house. Julius was calm and he immediately picked out a cushion to nap on!
The next morning he was prescribed two rounds of antibiotics and a lot of rest. Will separated him from his other cats in the house and his recovery journey officially started!
Julius spent most of his days napping around on his favorite cushion, while Will gently brushed out his fur. He managed to remove all the matts and tangled fur and Julius looked like a real handsome boy!
Will used a damp and warm washcloth to gently remove all the discharge from his nose and eyes. Julius was pampered like a true king and he enjoyed every minute of it!
After a quick vet visit, Julius was finally free of the respiratory infection! As Will said in his video:
“The last and best part of recovery, is seeing when a cat is ready to play again.”
This meant only one thing – Julius was ready for adoption! Although Will bonded with Julius, he knew he had to give him away, as mentioned:
“People always say they could never foster because it would be so hard to give up the cat after they’ve bonded. It’s hard. What makes it easier is knowing that Julius is going to be a center of attention somewhere.”
Since Will devoted his life to helping stray cats, this was the only way for him to provide more space for other cats in need! Such a kind soul, right?
Julius officially went to his forever home and Will continued to help stray cats in Brooklyn. Make sure to follow his amazing work over on Instagram!
