Texas Man Rescues Exhausted Baby Deer From Middle Of Lake And Hopes Her Mother Finds Her

When a tiny fawn was chased into a lake and left struggling to swim across, one man launched his boat just in time to pull the exhausted baby deer to safety.

It was supposed to be a normal day by the lake until a sudden commotion changed everything. A lady’s dog had accidentally spooked a tiny baby deer, sending the frightened animal right into the water.

In a panic, the tiny fawn started swimming, trying desperately to cross the wide expanse of the lake. But it quickly became clear that she was in over her head.

The small deer was losing energy fast, and the vast water was too much for her little legs to handle.

Seeing the deer struggling, one man knew he had to act quickly. He got his boat launched and headed straight for the swimming fawn.

“We don’t really know what to do. But obviously the deer ain’t gonna make it, so let’s get her,” he said, knowing time was running out.

He reached the tiny animal just as she was giving up.

With gentle hands, he pulled the soaking wet baby deer out of the water and onto his boat. The poor thing was completely exhausted.

“She wasn’t gonna make it for very much longer,” he noted, looking down at the shivering fawn. “I got you, baby girl, don’t you worry.”

The deer was so weak she couldn’t even stand up, but she was finally safe.

A Weak Little Heartbeat

He let her rest on the floor of the boat for a minute, giving her time to catch her breath. He could see her little heart beating, confirming she was alive but incredibly fragile.

“She’s just exhausted and terrified, I’m sure,” he said, watching over her carefully.

His immediate concern shifted to what would happen next if she couldn’t regain her strength.

Protecting The Helpless

The man knew he couldn’t just leave her on the shore in her current state. “My worry is obviously she can’t run now,” he explained.

If a coyote or another dog came along while she was helpless, she wouldn’t stand a chance.

He wanted to get her up on dry ground, but she was just too weak and had nothing left to give.

A Big Ol’ Softy

Knowing that a mother deer would likely return to the area looking for her fawn, he was determined to keep the baby alive. “Just do not die on me and I’ll be happy,” he pleaded.

Admitting he was a “big ol’ softy,” he decided he couldn’t leave the animal behind to fend for herself.

He wrapped her up to keep her warm and decided to take her home temporarily until she recovered.

With the little baby deer resting in his lap, he drove home. His plan was simple: keep her safe and warm in a blanket until she could stand and walk on her own.

“As soon as the deer is mobile we’re gonna take her and put her right back where we found her,” he explained.

He hoped that by returning her to the exact spot, her mother would find her that evening.

Signs Of Life

After some rest and warmth, the little fawn finally started to show signs of life. She began kicking and acting like she wanted to get away.

“She’s finally getting that life in her that I was looking for,” the rescuer said with relief.

It was time to take her back to the park so she could reunite with her mother.

He brought her back to the edge of the woods, right where the ordeal had started. He set her down gently, encouraging her to go hide in the trees.

“You get back up in them trees and you hide, OK? You go find Mama,” he told her.

With newfound strength, the little fawn trotted off into the brush, leaving her rescuer with a full heart and the hope that her mother was waiting close by.
