Toothless Senior Cat From DC Area Has A Strange Obsession And You’ll Never Guess What It Is
Many people assume that adopting a special-needs cat will be overwhelming, so it’s no wonder that these animals are often the ones left behind in shelters.
But Nugget, a senior cat with no teeth, proved that love doesn’t care about limitations.
Anshu had originally visited a shelter in the DC area with one plan in mind: adopt a playful kitten. She and her husband were hoping for a tiny burst of energy to brighten their home. But fate had something else in store.
Their eyes landed on Nugget, and in that moment, everything changed. Anshu shared in a YouTube video:
“We decided to help and go to a shelter. We actually went to adopt another cat but there we just saw Nugget and immediately fell in love with him.”
Nugget had been found abandoned on the street. She had to have all his teeth removed because of an infection.
Despite that, he had an incredible spirit and an endless capacity for affection. Anshu and her husband knew instantly he was the one and took him home that same day, sharing:
“He just walked up to us and started instantly hugging us and rubbing against our legs. It made us quite emotional, like how he wanted our touch, and for us to pet him.”
At first, they worried. They had never owned a pet before and wondered if they could meet Nugget’s needs.
But it didn’t take long for Nugget to settle in and show them just how sweet and calm a senior cat can be.
He followed them everywhere, purring loudly, rubbing against their legs, and always staying close. That little habit hasn’t changed; he’s still just as devoted and close to them today.
Nugget has his funny quirks, like his obsession with potatoes. He loves to curl up in the potato cabinet in the kitchen, as Anshu shared:
“He loves cuddling with potatoes. I have a potato cabinet, I picked that up from my mom. Nugget just randomly jumped in the cabinet and he’s sitting among all the potatoes.”
And when he goes on car rides, a potato always comes along for comfort.
When it comes to strangers, Nugget is still shy and cautious, a little guarded from the world, and Anshu thinks it’s because of the hardships he faced before finding them.
That’s why the potato cabinet has become his personal sanctuary, a place where he can retreat, feel safe, and just be himself.
But with Anshu and her husband, he’s a completely different cat. He’s playful, affectionate, endlessly loving, and his little quirks just make him all the more special.
They understand him in a way no one else can, and he returns that love by filling their home with endless joy. For them, Nugget is more than just a pet; he’s a soulmate.
Sometimes the plans we make aren’t the plans that were meant for us. Nugget wasn’t the playful kitten Anshu expected, but he’s exactly the cat they needed.
