Couple Hears Yipping High Up In Colorado Canyons, Then Two Tiny Heads Pop Out Of The Cliff

High up in the canyons of Colorado, Brody and Katie were just doing what they loved most: exploring wild places with their pup, Spaghetti.

But nothing could’ve prepared them for what they stumbled upon one morning while hiking out to their next climbing spot.

Katie kept hearing these tiny yipping sounds echoing through the canyon. At first, she thought it was just coyotes bouncing their calls off the cliffs like they often did.

But something about the sound felt off, more desperate and less wild. As they got closer to the climbing area, the calls continued, and Brody’s ears perked up too.

That’s when he spotted them. Two little heads popped up from the rocks way up high, peeking out nervously.

But these weren’t coyotes. They were dogs. And they looked terrified.

The place they were in was remote. No trails, no people around. No way those dogs had just wandered there on their own.

Katie and Brody called out, hoping someone might answer. But no one did. It was just them and those two poor pups stranded on the cliff.

Without thinking twice, Brody kicked into rescue mode. He grabbed his climbing gear and started figuring out the best way to get up there.

The dogs were quiet now, out of sight, and it was hard to tell exactly where they were. Brody almost gave up when he saw nothing ahead.

But something told him to keep going. Just ten more steps.

Then he saw it. A shaded little nook in the rock, tucked away in the cliffside. He scrambled down again and finally caught sight of them.

They were huddled together, completely cornered at the cliff, as Brody shared in a YouTube video:

“And that’s when I see this shaded cave. And I see this little Chihuahua head stick out. And I’m like, ‘No way.’”

At that moment, he wasn’t a climber anymore. He was just a dog person doing what any dog lover would do: trying to help.

Once Brody reached the little guys, they greeted him with kisses like they knew he was their chance out of there.

He then made makeshift harnesses from his climbing gear and safely secured the pups.

Now, it was time to go down.

As he rappelled off the cliff, the dogs nestled right onto his legs like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Suspended in midair, Brody floated down with one dog perched on each thigh. His arms were wrapped around them like he was carrying treasure, as he explained:

“By the time we got to the overhanging point, which means my feet are no longer touching the wall, I’m floating in space from the rope, one dog sat on each of my legs and I’m able to use my hands to manage the rope while having my arms around them.”

At the base of the cliff, Katie was getting ready to welcome them. She couldn’t help it, Spaghetti’s name inspired two more foodie names: Parmesan and Meatball.

They packed up quickly. Parmesan was snug in Brody’s lap and Katie cradled Meatball in her arms as they hiked back to the car and headed to town.

The couple needed to go on a work trip and couldn’t take the dogs with them, no matter how badly they wanted to. So they decided to take them to a local shelter.

Weeks passed and the couple finally heard the news they had hoped for. Both dogs had been adopted into loving homes.

For Katie and Brody, that rescue was one they’ll never forget. Katie shared:

“I think that our experience with Parmesan and Meatball was really a beautiful lesson to us about, you know, the hope that there still is out there, and that you can do good things, and that we can take a dark situation and turn it into something light.”

And somewhere out there, two lucky pups are living the good life, all because a couple of adventurers followed the yipping sound.
