Two Pitbulls Found Abandoned In A New Orleans Canal Desperately Waiting For A Helping Hand

Having been raised around animals, I know just how much care and responsibility they require.
What I’ll never understand is how someone can simply throw that responsibility away, leaving them without a chance to survive. It’s something I could never condone, under any circumstance.
This story is about one of those cruel moments. Two sweet pit bulls in New Orleans, Louisiana, were heartlessly abandoned in a canal as heavy rain poured down, left to struggle against the rising water.
Thankfully, their story didn’t end there. Fate had a different plan for them.

The two pit bulls, later named Francis and Norman, had been cruelly left behind in the 17th Street Canal, a spot sadly known for abandoned animals.
Soaked by relentless rain, the dogs trembled with fear, trapped in the canal with no way to climb out. Their situation looked grim, but luck was on their side.
Some kind locals noticed their struggle and quickly contacted Zeus’ Rescue, a New Orleans non-profit that never hesitates to help animals in need.
Despite it being a holiday, two rescuers rushed out without hesitation, determined to bring Francis and Norman to safety.

When Michelle and her colleague arrived, the sound of barking filled the air. The dogs’ voices were heavy with fear and desperation.
Without a second thought, the two women climbed into the canal to get to Francis and Norman.
As they approached, something remarkable happened. The frightened barking began to change, turning sharper and higher, almost as if excitement had replaced fear.
It was as though the pitties sensed that these women weren’t there to harm them but to offer the help they so desperately needed.

Michelle and her teammate didn’t have much with them, just a single can of cat food, but they were determined to make it count.
Using it as a lure, they called to the dogs, and Francis was the first to gather her courage. Slowly but surely, she made her way across to safety.
Not wanting to be left alone, Norman soon followed. With a powerful leap, he cleared the deepest part of the canal and reached the rescuers, finally safe beside his sister.
Once they managed to get the dogs out of the canal, the final step was to safely load them into the van and transport them to the rescue center.

Once Francis and Norman were safely out of danger, the rescuers arranged an urgent trip to the vet.
The examination revealed they were about three years old and in excellent condition. Both were spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, ensuring they had everything they needed for a fresh start.
With that, the pitties were ready to find new homes. And it didn’t take long for their personalities to shine through. Full of joy and charm, they spread happiness everywhere they went.
They adored playing with the staff and other dogs, but their absolute favorite pastime was stretching out in the sunshine, lounging peacefully like a pair of oversized, happy cats.

In the end, the siblings’ paths separated when Norman was adopted into his forever home.
My hope is that Francis has since found a family of her own too. And I hope this touching rescue story brought a little warmth to your day, just as it did for me.
