Texas Couple Sees Two Motionless Shapes Lying By The Roadside And Pulls Over To Investigate
Donald and Aggie Cooper were on their usual drive from Texas to Pennsylvania, expecting nothing more than a long stretch of highway and a few quick stops. But somewhere along the way, everything changed.
As volunteers with Unleash the Paws, helping animals is second nature to them. Even when they’re off duty, they notice things others might miss.
That’s when Aggie spotted something near the tall grass. Two tiny shapes. Completely still.
Something didn’t feel right. As they slowed down, they realized this wasn’t just another moment on the road. It was the start of a rescue they couldn’t ignore.
When they approached, their hearts grew heavy, believing the animals, a cat and her kitten, had already passed. Then, just as they began to lose hope, something astonishing happened.
Donald pulled the car to the side, and Aggie hurried out to see if there was any hope for the small, motionless kitten.
However, what she discovered next left her both heartbroken and surprised. Aggie shared in an interview:
“I had to get out to check on the kitten because it was too dangerous for him. The cars were passing our van so close and fast, it was shaking the whole van.”
As Aggie moved closer, she noticed the kitten’s mother stretched out beside him, completely still and showing no signs of life.
Heartbroken, she feared the kitten had met the same fate. But just as she was about to give up, she saw the kitten moving. She recalled:
“I touched the kitten to see if he was alive. When I did, I saw his little paw move, and that’s when I picked him up.”
Aggie carefully lifted the fragile kitten and carried him into their van. He was so young that his tiny eyes had only just begun to open.
They decided to name him Mile Marker 14, Interstate 70 East, Ohio – the exact spot where he was discovered – but affectionately shortened it to Miles.
Rescuing him was only the beginning.
The real challenge was figuring out how to care for such a young kitten during their several-week road trip, all while traveling with six dogs who had never shared space with a cat before.
Fortunately, everything worked out better than expected. The dogs were thrilled to meet their new furry friend, and they all quickly bonded. Aggie explained:
“They quickly learned to accept him and realized he was one of the pack. Now, the kitten thinks he is a dog and has no fear of them. He plays with our foster dogs, who adore him and shower him with affection.”
Miles turned out to be incredibly fortunate, and Aggie shared his story on TikTok to raise awareness about stopping to check on animals in need. She added:
“Now, I realize how important it is to check every animal on the side of the road. If we hadn’t turned around and stopped, I don’t think the kitten would have made it.”
After such a difficult beginning, Miles is now prepared to start a brand-new chapter – finding a forever home.
Full of energy and affection, he’s a playful kitten who would fit right into a dog-loving family, ready to flourish in the happy life that awaits him.
