Philadelphia Rescuers Spot Two Shy Kittens Struggling To Survive And Rush To Change Their Luck

Let me tell you the touching tale of two fortunate feline brothers. As tiny kittens, they had been left to survive on the streets of Philadelphia with no one to look after them.

Everything changed the day animal rescuers crossed their path, giving them a chance at a brighter future.

It all began when a team of volunteers from Kolony Kats came across the shy little tabby pair.

The kittens were clearly hungry and searching for a safe place to rest, unaware that help had finally arrived.

Because the kittens were so timid and uncertain, the rescuers realised they couldn’t just pick them up and carry them away.

To keep the little brothers safe, they set up a humane trap, hoping it would be the gentlest way to help.

To their relief, the plan worked quickly, and the rescue was smoother than expected, sparking optimism that the road ahead might not be as difficult as they had first imagined.

Finding A Foster Home

The next step was to secure a safe haven for these adorable tabbies. That was when Erica, a volunteer for Charlie’s Army Animal Rescue in Philadelphia, stepped in to help and welcome the twins with open arms.

Erica shared in an interview:

“They weren’t socialized when they were brought to me. They hadn’t had very much human interaction.”

The poor furry souls were very confused when they arrived in foster care, so they chose to stay in their hideout for a while.

However, after only a couple of days, their attitude began to change, slowly but surely. Erica added:

“They were barely five weeks old. For the first day or so, they wouldn’t come out of their carrier, or they’d run back in whenever I came in their room.”

Incredibly, it took just two days for the twin brothers to shed their fear and turn into affectionate purring companions. Erica was amazed at how fast they opened up to her.

Instead of hiding away in search of safety, they began to fully embrace their new lives, eager to enjoy every moment of their fresh start.

Erica gave the brothers fitting names, calling them Little and Big, and soon they began to relish the safety and warmth of living indoors.

The real spark, however, came when they were introduced to Erica’s resident cat, Forest. Known for his gentle nature and knack for greeting newcomers, Forest was eager to meet the pair right away.

Still, the kittens had to wait until they were fully healthy before they could join him for playtime and companionship.

In the meantime, they communicated through the door, eagerly awaiting the day they could finally meet. Erica recalled the moment:

“When he started singing, one of the kittens ran up to the door and started meowing.”

Finally, once the tabby twins were ready to meet the rest of the feline crew, they became the happiest kittens in the world.

To everyone’s delight, they seamlessly integrated as if they had always been a part of the clan. Erica explained:

“My two adult cats, Forest and Sloane, love kittens, and they have helped Big and Little with their confidence and learning kitten manners.”

It didn’t take long for Erica’s cats to welcome the newcomers with open paws. Big often nestled close to Sloane, happily soaking up attention, while Little found comfort curling beside Forest, forming a sweet bond with his new friend.

They were all so adorable together, especially when Forest would wrap his paw around Little as they nap. Erica said:

“Sloane was taking a bath, and Big climbed up next to him, so he could get a bath, too.”

Sloane and Forest are purrfect foster parents and always help Erica on her mission with foster kittens. She said:

“They taught them how to play nicely and just be good kittens. I often find them sleeping curled up with one of their ‘foster dads’.”

Big and Little quickly revealed just how much they adored affection. They had a habit of rolling onto their sides with their bellies exposed, purring away as if to say they wanted nothing more than endless attention and long cuddle sessions.

As time passed by, the kittens’ true personalities began to shine through. Erica said:

“Big is the leader and the more outgoing of the two. Little follows his lead. They are equal parts playful and cuddly. They sleep in my bed almost every night.”

Erica was amazed at how quickly these twin kittens adapted to their new life, saying:

“They took a couple of days to adjust to indoor life, but ever since they haven’t looked back.”

Big and Little truly turned out to be lucky kittens. They were not only saved from a life on the streets but also grew up alongside two caring house cats who guided them and showed them all the lessons they needed to thrive.

Happily Ever After

After finishing their socialization journey, the twin brothers were ready for the next step – finding a forever home where they could continue to grow side by side.

A few months later, their wait came to a joyful end. Big and Little, now renamed Obi and Anakin, were adopted by a warmhearted family who also share their home with two other cats, Simba and Nala.

After sharing the great news with her followers, Erica wrote in the caption below the kittens’ photo:

“So far, their new mom says that they are so incredibly sweet and loving and have already made themselves at home. After being sprung from the adoption cage, she reported that they spent the night running laps around her bedroom and taking breaks to sleep in her bed.”

Their move into the new home was taken slowly, with their adoptive mom carefully following the suggested steps for introducing cats to one another.

Even so, Big and Little’s curiosity quickly shone through, and they were eager to meet their new older siblings.

In the end, this rescue mission exceeded expectations, ensuring that these twin kittens found a forever home filled with love. Erica added:

“It was frustrating for me that it took so long to find them home, but I’m so happy that their new family seems great and is absolutely smitten with them.”

This touching story is a beautiful reminder of the incredible paths rescue animals often take, going from fragile strays to beloved members of a family.

None of it would be possible without the kindness, patience, and devotion of people like Erica, along with the families who choose to welcome these cats into their homes and hearts.
