New Hampshire Vet Assistant Welcomes A Deaf Feline Patient And Refuses To Give Up On Her

When Raianna met Peaches, one of her feline patients, the connection was instant. Or maybe it’s better to say it happened with the very first purr.
This sweet, fluffy girl won Rihanna’s heart the moment she padded into the vet’s office, as if she already knew she’d found someone special.
Their story is nothing short of remarkable, and it’s one worth sharing. Keep reading to see how their bond unfolded!

Working as a veterinary assistant in Ashland, New Hampshire, Raianna gets to meet countless lovable animals and help care for them each day. One of those patients happened to be Peaches.
She was brought in by the local Humane Society after her former owner lost their home to foreclosure, and she needed care for a persistent bacterial infection.
When Peaches finally recovered and was cleared for adoption, Raianna didn’t hesitate – she knew this little cat was meant to be hers.

Peaches was just a year old when she finally found her forever person. At first, she was a bit reserved, spending her first hours tucked away in the corners of Raianna’s home.
But as her shyness melted away, Peaches started to reveal the vibrant and charming personality that made her so special.
After spending a week together, Raianna made an unexpected discovery something not even folks at the shelter were familiar with: She was deaf! Raianna said in a video:
“I tried talking to her, and she had no idea I was there standing right behind her.”
Despite the unexpected revelation of Peaches being deaf, Raianna remained completely enamored with her furry companion.

It wasn’t only Raianna who was smitten with Peaches – everyone who crossed paths with her quickly fell in love.
According to Raianna, it’s all thanks to her unique purr, which has an uncanny resemblance to the cooing sound of a pigeon. She added:
“Some people said she sounds like a cicada when she purrs, or a little dinosaur when she purrs. I think pigeon is the most accurate.”
Apparently, the reason she purrs so funny is because of the overgrowth of tissue of some sort. Regardless of the reason, she sounds heavenly! Just listen to her:
Caring for a deaf cat like Peaches does come with its hurdles, but Raianna has found simple yet clever ways to bridge the gap.
She uses flickering lights or gentle floor vibrations to catch Peaches’ attention, relying on visual and physical signals instead of sound.
These small adjustments show how possible it is to care for a special needs pet with patience and creativity.
As the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way. While some might hesitate at the thought of such responsibility, Raianna embraces it fully.
Her ability to adapt reflects not only her dedication but also the depth of love she feels for Peaches.

In addition to being deaf, Peaches recently faced another challenge – she needed hip surgery to fix a developmental issue with her femur.
Luckily, Raianna’s work as a veterinary assistant meant Peaches could get the best possible care.
An orthopedic specialist carried out the procedure, correcting the problem and giving Peaches the chance to live a full, active, and happy life.

Peaches has truly earned her reputation as a social butterfly, Raianna says. She greets everyone with ease, whether they’re people or even dogs – a trait not many cats can claim.
Her endless affection has also won her the nickname “wicked snuggle bug,” since nothing makes her happier than curling up in Raianna’s lap for a long nap.
But cuddles aren’t her only specialty. Peaches is also a fan of family TV time and has a blast with the wide variety of toys scattered around the house. She’s the perfect mix of playful energy and heartwarming affection.

Even without her hearing, Peaches doesn’t miss a beat or let it take away from the life she loves. Aside from not reacting to her name being called, she enjoys her days just like any other cat.
For Raianna, watching Peaches thrive is a constant reminder of the incredible bond they share. It’s a beautiful example of the unconditional love our pets bring into our lives.

If you’ve been charmed by Peaches and her heartwarming tale, you’re in luck! Raianna keeps Peaches’ fans updated with frequent posts and videos on her Instagram. I strongly suggest you give it a follow.
A pro tip: Seek out those purring videos. They’re incredibly soothing and, be warned, highly addictive – I find myself hitting replay over and over.
