Ohio Woman Rescues Street Kitten Believed To Be 7 Weeks Old, But The Truth Is Surprising

cat thought to be 7 weeks old

When a little cat named Pixie was found on the side of the road, everyone assumed she was just a seven-week-old kitten.

She was so small, weighing less than two pounds, and looked fragile. But when vets checked her teeth, they realized she was much older than she appeared, likely close to a year old. That’s when the mystery of Pixie began.

“Initially, they thought she was a kitten because of her size.”

After her rescue, Pixie was brought to a local animal shelter, where staff quickly realized she needed special care.

They reached out to Heather, a nurse experienced with fragile kittens. Heather was surprised by Pixie’s tiny frame, but also touched by her sweet personality. As she shared in an interview:

“Anyone who meets Pixie falls in love with her. She loves to be held on her back like a baby and trusts all humans. It was impossible not to love and fight for her.”

Though she stayed small, Pixie acted every bit like a full-grown cat. She had the coordination to climb and jump, her purr was strong and constant, and her expressive eyes seemed to tell her story without words.

Pixie didn’t let her size stop her from making friends. She loved hanging out with Noey, a blind cat about her age who was five times her size. Despite the difference, Pixie ruled the friendship with confidence.

She also became close with Buttercup, a seven-week-old kitten who followed her everywhere. The two played and ran as if they had been siblings all along. Wherever Pixie went, Buttercup trailed happily behind.

As loving as she was, Pixie still faced health challenges, especially with her stomach. Heather tried everything, different foods, medications, and plenty of gentle care. Progress was slow, often two steps forward and one step back.

Eventually, the shelter vet recommended a fecal transplant, and the treatment gave Pixie a much-needed boost.

“We tried so many different things. It was two steps forward and one step back for a few months. Eventually, the shelter’s vet decided to try a fecal transplant (oral capsules).”

Over time, she grew to 3.5 pounds, still tiny for her age, but strong and full of life. Heather began to worry, though, that Pixie might never find a forever home. She needed someone very dedicated, someone willing to continue her special care.

Then came Trina. She reached out to Heather, explaining that she already had a cat with the same condition as Pixie. For three weeks, the two women spoke every day, and Heather became convinced that Trina was the right person.

“She convinced me that she would do absolutely everything in her power to help her. Pixie’s new mom thoughtfully made plans for her home and medical accommodations. It couldn’t have been a better match.”

When Heather told Pixie the good news, it seemed like the tiny cat understood.

“She slow-blinked, stretched her tiny paw onto my shoulder, and laid her head over my heart as if she understood and wanted to say thank you.”

Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but Heather knew Pixie was going to a wonderful home. On the car ride, Pixie fell asleep in Trina’s lap and didn’t stir until they arrived.

Once inside, she quickly found a sunny spot by the window, filling the room with her happy purrs.

With the right diet and treatment, Pixie’s energy soared, and her playful personality blossomed. She even discovered new favorite hiding places, like cozy shopping bags hanging on doors.

“Pixie climbed into a shopping bag hanging on a door and found a cozy new spot to chill.”

She met the other cats in Trina’s home and, despite being the smallest, made it clear she could hold her own.

“I think she’s happy here and has settled in nicely with the rest of the herd.”

Today, Pixie is off her medication and thriving with her forever family. She spends her days exploring the house, playing with her feline friends, and cuddling with her humans.

Pixie’s story is proof that size doesn’t matter when it comes to love. She may be tiny, but her heart is big, and thanks to the people who believed in her, she finally has the life she deserves.
