Deaf Woman Rescues A Stranded Swan With An IKEA Bag, Then Watches In Wonder As Magic Happens

It wasn’t every day that Carly saw a swan on the road. In fact, it was pretty unusual. This one, though, was different. He looked worn out, like he’d been through a lot.
His wings were drooping, and he seemed barely able to move. Carly could tell this poor swan was in danger and he might not last long if a car came speeding down the road.

So, without hesitation, she gently guided the swan off the pavement, giving her best to keep him calm.
Being deaf, Carly has always been able to understand animals on a deep level, and it’s something she’s proud of.
Maybe it’s the way she can read their body language so well, or the way she instinctively knows when they need comfort.

Though clearly exhausted, the swan seemed to trust her instantly. Carly could tell he wasn’t going to resist much, he just needed to rest.
Thinking quickly, Carly reached for her shopping bags. She realized they’d make great makeshift carriers, as she shared in a YouTube video:
“I discovered that Ikea shopping bags make ideal swan carry bags.”

She carefully placed the swan in the bag and took him to the Ken Wildlife Rescue, where the staff diagnosed him with a slight fever.
But after a few days of rest and care, he started to improve. Carly was so relieved as she watched him gain strength.
After the swan fully recovered, the hard part came: finding his home. After all, swans didn’t belong in the clinic, they belonged in the wild.

Carly searched for a lake nearby that could be his home, one where he might feel safe. Soon, she found one that seemed perfect.
As she prepared to release him, the swan began to stir, as Carly shared:
“I had to find a suitable lake that was possibly his home. I was quite nervous. He started to vocalize and try to flap his wings within the bag.”

Then, out of nowhere, a group of swans showed up. They headed right toward them, as if they knew exactly what was happening.
Carly’s heart skipped a beat. This was it. She gently opened the bag and encouraged him to make his way to the water.
When he finally stepped out, he seemed full of confidence. Carly watched, amazed, as he swam away.

Then Carly noticed another swan awaiting him. The two locked eyes, and it was like magic. Carly shared:
“He jumped in really confident and made his way over to a rather lonely looking female and they made a display of courtship which is basically where the neck can form a heart.”
Carly’s heart felt so full as she watched it all happen. It was like the universe had brought them together at just the right moment.

Watching the swan and his mate drift into the lake was the most beautiful thing Carly had seen, sharing:
“It was absolutely a miracle to watch, a true fairy tale.”
She knew that, in her own way, she was helping the animals who couldn’t speak for themselves.

Carly may not have hearing, but that never stops her from understanding animals. And no matter what, she’ll always be their voice, as she shared:
“I feel most at home with wildlife. And while I might not have hearing, I have a voice. And I will always be a voice for the voiceless.”
Some connections go beyond words, don’t they?
