Dallas Shelter Pup Was Just Hours From Being Put Down Until A Stranger Realized She Was Family

With his floppy ears, soulful eyes, and his mix of shar-pei, German shepherd, and rottweiler, Buddy was the perfect combination of silly and sweet.
From the first moment his mom brought him home as a puppy, they’d been inseparable. She never imagined she’d need or want another dog. Life felt just right with the two of them.
But sometimes, fate has its own plans.

One day, while scrolling through social media, she saw a post from Dallas Animal Services that stopped her cold. It showed a frightened dog on the euthanasia list.
At first, she couldn’t quite believe her eyes. That face, those worried brows, the same soulful eyes, it felt like she was looking at Buddy.
Something told her this wasn’t just a coincidence. She had to know more. So, she reached out to the shelter, and what she learned next made her entire world spin.

That scared little dog in the photo was Candy. And she wasn’t just Buddy’s look-alike. She was Buddy’s sister.
Both Buddy and Candy had started their lives at that very same shelter years before. Buddy had been adopted as a puppy, while Candy went home with another family.
For a while, they grew up in separate worlds. But heartbreakingly, Candy’s family had surrendered her back to the shelter.

And now, she was on the euthanasia list. The woman shared on Reddit:
“She was my dog’s littermate. I adopted my dog buddy when he was a puppy, and Candy got adopted by another family. In December, they surrendered her to DAS.”
That knowledge crushed her. The thought of Buddy’s sister losing her life in a shelter was unbearable.

She knew she couldn’t stand by and do nothing. She called the shelter right away and told them she was coming for Candy.
When they finally met, Candy broke her heart all over again. Her head hung low, her body stiff, and her tail wouldn’t even budge, as the woman shared:
“She was so scared when I first picked her up. [She] ducked her head, never wagged her tail. You could just tell how hard she’s had it.”

On top of everything, Candy had spent most of her life outside and was heartworm positive. But none of that mattered. She was going home now.
In the car, Candy sat unsure, overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. But when they pulled into the driveway and she saw Buddy waiting for her, it was like magic.
The second their eyes met, it was as if they both knew. They hadn’t forgotten each other. After years apart, their bond snapped back into place.

Within just a few days, Candy began to change. Her tail started wagging. She followed Buddy around the yard. She started to trust again.
Now, Buddy and Candy are never apart. Years of separation faded away the second they were reunited.
At last, they’re where they belong: home, together, living the happy life they were always meant to share.
