Denver Couple Thought Their Cat Was Just Aging Until X-Ray Revealed The Heartbreaking Truth

Sharing is caring!

When Chelsea married her husband, she also became a cat mom to Hari, a small, delicate feline he had rescued from a shelter.

Hari wasn’t as energetic and mischievous as her siblings, but that only made her more endearing. She was an old soul who found joy in the simple comforts of their Denver home – curling up in sun-drenched spots and watching the world go by.

For a while, everything seemed fine. However, as the years passed, Chelsea started noticing little changes in Hari.

She was slowing down more than usual, as Chelsea shared in an interview:

“We noticed that Hari was limping up the stairs when we called her for dinner, and she was slower. It was mostly her front right leg, and we originally thought it was a sprain, so she was put on pain medication, but after a week, she still wasn’t better.”

At first, they chalked it up to aging. A little stiffness, a little discomfort, it happens to older cats. After all, she was around ten years old, so it made sense that she might be feeling this way.

They tried pain medication, hoping it was just a minor sprain. But as the days passed, Hari didn’t improve.

Concerned, Chelsea took her to the vet for a thorough checkup, expecting to hear something like arthritis or joint issues. But nothing could have prepared her for the heartbreaking truth about Hari’s past.

Chelsea shared:

“Hari originally had an X-ray of her leg, and the vets thought maybe a bone part had broken off or a bone spur had grown there, but they weren’t sure, so they wanted more imaging.”

However, what X-rays revealed was far from that. Hari wasn’t just dealing with old age or a broken bone – she had two BB gun pellets still lodged in her tiny body, one buried in her chest and another in her back leg.

But that wasn’t all. The scans also uncovered old, untreated fractures in her legs, as Chelsea explained:

“A CT scan also found that the reason she was limping on her front right leg is because it’s shorter than her left leg. This is due to the fact her right leg has an old fracture that didn’t heal, and they also found fractures in her back legs from before she was adopted.”

The weight of that realization hit Chelsea like a brick. Someone had hurt Hari – shot her when she was just a kitten, left her with broken bones, and abandoned her to fend for herself.

Chelsea cried the entire drive home, overwhelmed by the cruelty her gentle, loving cat had endured, sharing:

“I was so sad because Hari is the sweetest cat, she is so gentle and welcoming. I don’t know how anyone could harm any creature that way. She would have been under 2 when it happened, so why would anyone want to shoot a kitten?”

But despite everything, Hari hadn’t let her past define her. She had never been bitter or fearful, only loving, warm, and endlessly patient.

Even now, she still has a playful streak, pestering her younger feline sisters and making herself a little queen of the house.

Her owners are committed to giving Hari a life of comfort, making sure every day is filled with warmth and love. Heated beds, a sun-soaked catio, soft steps to help her climb – whatever Hari needs, they’re ready to provide.

Chelsea shared Hari’s story online, and people were horrified by what this poor kitty had endured. But they were also inspired by her resilience, by the way she continued to love and trust despite the cruelty she had faced.

Hari may have been through hell, but in her new home, she’s safe, adored, and free to live the peaceful life she had always deserved.
