You know that time of the year when all your problems are left behind and you only worry about your next cocktail? That’s right, I’m talking about vacation time!
This is exactly what Karl and his wife Liza had in mind. They planned out their 2-week trip to the very last day. He even made plans with friends they hadn’t seen for a while.
However, when destiny comes knocking on your door everything changes in an instant…
On the first day of their vacation, Karl and his wife left their accommodation to get some well-deserved drinks. However, while crossing the parking lot something tiny caught their attention.
Karl approached the tiny attention grabber only to realize it was a small kitten. Sadly, the poor soul was in a desperate state. He was covered in fleas, breathing heavily, and barely moving.
The couple also noticed his right eye was seriously injured. Without a second thought, they rushed him to the nearest emergency vet.
The vet examined and cleaned the poor kitten, however, they couldn’t save his right eye. The injury was so severe, it caused permanent blindness.
Luckily, his left eye was intact and the vet assured Karl that with proper care the kitten would thrive.
What Karl and his wife did next, warmed my heart on so many levels! They canceled all their vacation plans and scheduled dinner parties to care for the kitten. They named him Cubi and their journey officially started.
The couple had to sneak Cubi inside their Airbnb since pets were not allowed. They never cared for sick kittens before, as Karl shared in an Instagram post:
“And so we did our best, even though we have no experience treating a kitten. It was hard at first, but we eventually got the hang of it as the days went by.”
It took Cubi only two days with his new parents to regain his energy and start climbing around the apartment. They even took him out for some evening walks in the park!
His breathing problem was long gone and the injury in his eye was well taken care of. Karl was determined to bring him home with them, however Cubi needed to get vaccinated first.
Lucky for them, a foster mama was more than happy to take Cubi in until he was ready to travel to his furrever home. It was a hard goodbye for the couple, however, they knew he was in good hands and this goodbye was not forever!
In the meantime, Cubi inspired his new parents and the two became more involved in helping stray cats in their community. They would feed the cats every day, making sure they stayed healthy and counting the days until Cubi came home.
A few weeks later, Cubi was deemed ready to travel! Karl and his wife were eager to introduce him to his older sisters Zoe and Cloe and shower him with lots of love.
Today, Cubi is the real definition of a happy, chunky house cat. When he is not spending time annoying his sister Zoe, you can spot him napping and playing with his toys.
At the end of the day, he turns into a real purr machine as he snuggles up next to his daddy.
