Gillian Rogers was just another face in the New York City subway crowd. However, fate had a heartwarming surprise in store for her, one that would soon touch hearts around the world.
Gillian couldn’t help but notice a small bundle of fur resting in the man’s lap on a subway. The kitten was wrapped in a towel, as the man fed her from a bottle. She was no larger than a teacup.
Yet, the one thing that truly fascinated Gillian was the man’s face, filled with love and gentleness as he was taking care of the tiny kitten. She shared for The Dodo:
“My heart felt like it was going to explode to see someone with that much caring.”
Gillian was fueled by her curiosity and a sudden rush of affection. She decided to initiate a conversation and then discovered that the friendly man had found the little kitten all by herself in a deserted alley.
He rescued the kitten and was committed to being her guardian and temporary caregiver. The goal was to help her grow and become healthy. Gillian, who is a founder of Pet Rescue Squad Inc., added:
“It was so heartwarming. I told him, ‘Thank you.'”
The little kitty appeared completely smitten. The affection in her eyes towards the man who saved her was really obvious. Gillian mentioned:
“The kitten was looking up at him as he fed her.”
After thanking the man for his kindness, Gillian carried on with her journey feeling hopeful for the day ahead. Little did she know, this heartwarming experience was far from ending.
She posted a picture of the man and the tiny kitten on social media. The internet, it seemed, was waiting for such a story. The photo quickly went viral, bringing happiness to many people. Gillian continued:
“It was truly a special moment. When I got off the train, I felt like I was walking on air,” Rogers said. “I felt joyful – like, it renewed my faith in humanity. There are still decent people out there.”
As a person who commits their life to helping animals, for Gillian, this situation was particularly moving. She continued:
“I had no idea the photo was going to resonate as it has. It makes me happy. I think we all need something to cheer us up.”
