Local Hears Squeaky Sounds In Chicago Woods And Finds These Fluffballs Crying Their Lungs Out
On the edge of a forest near Chicago, two tiny kittens were left all alone. Covered in dirt, sticky sap, and bits of leaves, they mewed loudly, hungry, scared, and hoping their mom would return.
Luckily, fate had something better in store.
A passerby heard their cries and followed them through the trees until they found the source: a black kitten named Burr and her silvery-black brother, Bug.
Only a few weeks old and far too fragile to survive alone, the kittens were quickly scooped into a blanket and rushed to a local animal shelter.
At the shelter, it was clear they needed more care than the staff could provide. They were weak, malnourished, and so tiny that their teeth hadn’t even come in yet.
Fortunately, help came in the form of an experienced foster mom named Alyssa, who didn’t hesitate to open her home, and heart, to them. As she shared on Instagram:
“They don’t have teeth yet, but I can feel their little incisors just below the gums, so I’m putting them at around 3 weeks old! Bug was dehydrated and lethargic, but after some supportive care, he’s bouncing back rather quickly. Burr is an energetic little thing, and it was certainly her loud cries that found them rescue!”
Her followers instantly fell in love. Within hours, her post was filled with messages of support, and a few adoption inquiries too.
Over the next week and a half, Alyssa bottle-fed the kittens every few hours. Soon, they were strong enough to start eating soft kitten food.
“Bug and his sister have officially quit the bottle and are full-time meat eaters! So today he got to try a tube of kitten churu (aka kitty crack) and it was pretty darn cute.”
But not every stage of growth goes smoothly. After enduring days of hunger in the forest, Burr developed an unusual comfort habit, suckling on her brother.
While it might sound harmless, excessive suckling can lead to injuries and digestive issues for kittens.
Unfortunately, Burr’s tummy soon became upset, and she had to be temporarily separated from Bug. Alyssa explained:
“This little 0.7 lb monster had to be separated from her brother for inappropriate suckling and diarrhea (which was most likely a consequence) a while ago. We finally found the right antibiotic for her and she’s doing soooo much better! It’s fun to watch a kitten start playing and stuffing their face after fixing a medical issue.”
Thankfully, Burr made a full recovery. When she and Bug were finally reunited, their joy was unmistakable.
As the weeks passed, the scrappy pair blossomed into playful, confident kittens. Their fur gleamed, their eyes turned a stunning shade of blue, and their bond grew even stronger. Alyssa proudly posted:
“Bug and Burr, the meezer-panther duo, are full-fledged mini cats now! They climb, they wrestle, they harass me for snacks…BUT they haven’t yet figured out how to jump the playpen. I am not complaining.”
From frightened cries in a forest to joyful playtime in a warm home, these two siblings transformed completely. Burr’s loud voice, the same one that first drew rescuers to her, became the symbol of their survival.
Now, Bug and Burr are thriving under Alyssa’s care, waiting for the perfect forever home. Their story is a reminder that even the smallest cry for help can be answered by kindness.
