New Jersey Dog Left Devastated After The Only Family She Knew Turns Their Back On Her
There’s something beautiful about watching a shelter dog finally leave with a family. It feels like everything they’ve been waiting for is finally happening. Like the hard part is over.
But sometimes… it doesn’t stay that way. That’s exactly what happened to a dog named Patience from a shelter in New Jersey.
Like so many others, she spent her days watching people walk past her kennel, hoping someone would stop. And one day, someone did.
She left with her new family, full of excitement, thinking this was the life she had been waiting for. But that feeling didn’t last. Less than a year later… she was brought back to shelter.
In an instant, Patience found herself back in a kennel with a broken heart. Instead of holding onto the hope of a better future, she seemed to lose all belief.
She withdrew from the world, curled up in a corner of her small kennel, and turned her back on everyone as if she wished to vanish.
This once-loving dog, who had known affection and then lost it, now seemed consumed by sadness. It was painful for the shelter staff to watch her in such despair.
They did everything they could to help her open up again and show her that kindness still existed, but Patience remained unresponsive, a shadow of the dog she once was, with no trust left in people.
Her heartbreaking story caught the attention of the compassionate volunteers from SNARR Northeast, a rescue group from New York.
They saw a video of Patience alone, turned away from everything, and knew they had to step in. They couldn’t bear to watch this sweet soul fade away.
Once they discovered the full story behind Patience’s sadness, the whole situation got even more heartbreaking. It wasn’t just her return to the shelter that had crushed her spirit.
Patience had been found on the streets of New Jersey, injured and alone, after being adopted into a loving family. Her past was unclear and painful, but her caregivers believed she might have been hit by a car.
Because of this unknown trauma, Patience suffered from a spinal injury and had lost her peripheral vision. She could only see what was right in front of her, and even that was limited.
But luckily, the wonderful people at SNARR Northeast believed in Patience. They looked past her injured body and her withdrawn attitude.
They knew she deserved another chance, a safe and peaceful place where she could relax and start to heal. So, they set out to find the perfect foster home for her.
And wouldn’t you know it, they found one! A spot where Patience could finally feel safe, loved, and understood. With the right foster care and lots of tender loving care (TLC), this sweet Pittie girl began to reveal her true self.
Beneath all that sadness was a fun-loving, quirky Pittie who cherishes every moment with her loving humans. She’s learning to get around despite her limited vision, and she does it with an inspiring spirit.
Patience is now getting ready to begin her neurological treatment, with the hope that it will restore some of the vision she’s lost.
In the meantime, she’s soaking up the joys of being a dog in a warm and loving home, surrounded by people who truly understand her and appreciate the amazing dog she is.
The most comforting part? She’ll never have to return to that cold, lonely kennel again!
