Missouri Cat Found Wandering The Streets Turns Out To Be A 15-Year-Old Miracle Waiting For Love

When a neighborhood stray turned out to be a sweet, partially deaf and blind 15-year-old cat, one family stepped up to give her the second chance she desperately needed.

While Emmy was out of town, she received a concerned phone call from her mother.

Her mom had spotted a stray cat wandering their neighborhood and was deeply worried about the animal’s well-being.

Hoping to find the cat’s family, her mother began posting on neighborhood apps like Nextdoor and Ring.

Meanwhile, another kind neighbor stepped in to make sure the mysterious feline had food to eat.

A Late-Night Search

Two weeks later, Emmy finally returned home from her trip.

She hadn’t forgotten about the cat her mother had mentioned, and she immediately went out that very night to search for her.

It didn’t take long for Emmy to locate the feline in the darkness.

What she expected to be a skittish stray turned out to be something entirely different.

The Sweetest Surprise

As soon as Emmy approached, she realized this cat was definitely not feral.

The sweet feline came right up to her and instantly started purring.

"I did not expect to spend tonight snuggling a cat that I found on the street two hours ago, but here we are," Emmy shared.

She quickly realized she was dealing with an incredibly affectionate soul.

Overwhelmed by the cat’s gentle nature, Emmy knew they couldn’t leave her outside.

"She’s literally the sweetest cat I’ve ever met," she said.

Emmy told her mom to grab a pet carrier so they could bring the friendly stray indoors.

They decided to call the sweet girl Birdie, a fitting name for a cat with a very unique, rumbling purr that sounded almost like a little dinosaur.

Beating The Odds

A trip to the veterinarian revealed just how fragile Birdie’s situation had been.

The vet estimated that Birdie was around 15 years old and had likely been surviving on the streets for a month.

It was nothing short of a miracle that she had made it.

Birdie was battling respiratory infections, had a heart murmur, and was both partially deaf and blind.

The Stray Hold

The next day, Emmy and her mother took Birdie to the Great Plains SPCA.

They wanted her to receive proper medical treatment and hoped that her original owners might be looking for her.

Birdie completed a mandatory five-day stray hold at the shelter.

Sadly, no one ever came forward to claim the sweet senior cat.

Fostering A Friend

With no family coming for her, Emmy and her mother decided to foster Birdie while the shelter continued her medical treatments.

Bringing her back into their home, they quickly began falling deeper in love with her.

Birdie had an adorable, clingy quirk: whenever Emmy would pet her and try to pull away, Birdie would gently grab her hand with her claws to make her stay.

Despite her breathing issues and heart murmur, she proved to be a remarkably happy and resilient cat.

A Forever Family

Emmy’s family already had two senior cats at home, so they initially tried to find another family to adopt Birdie.

They weren’t sure if their house was the perfect fit for a third elderly feline.

But as the days passed, it became clear that Birdie had already found where she belonged.

When Birdie officially became available for adoption, Emmy’s family made it official, ensuring this sweet senior would spend her golden years surrounded by love.
