A Mother’s Concern
While Emmy was out of town, she received a concerned phone call from her mother.
Her mom had spotted a stray cat wandering their neighborhood and was deeply worried about the animal’s well-being.
Hoping to find the cat’s family, her mother began posting on neighborhood apps like Nextdoor and Ring.
Meanwhile, another kind neighbor stepped in to make sure the mysterious feline had food to eat.
A Late-Night Search
Two weeks later, Emmy finally returned home from her trip.
She hadn’t forgotten about the cat her mother had mentioned, and she immediately went out that very night to search for her.

It was nothing short of a miracle that she had made it.
Birdie was battling respiratory infections, had a heart murmur, and was both partially deaf and blind.
The Stray Hold
The next day, Emmy and her mother took Birdie to the Great Plains SPCA.
They wanted her to receive proper medical treatment and hoped that her original owners might be looking for her.
Birdie completed a mandatory five-day stray hold at the shelter.
