North Carolina Sanctuary Took In 2-Pound Rejected Goat, But Watch Who She Chooses As Her Best Friend
Rejected at birth and the size of a tissue box, little Lily needed a miracle. She found it in the most unexpected furry friends.
An Unexpected Arrival
When a tiny baby goat named Lily was rejected by her mother at birth, her future looked incredibly uncertain.
Thankfully, the farmer who owned her made the compassionate choice to reach out for help, offering to surrender the little one to a local sanctuary.
At just five days old, Lily was incredibly fragile and needed round-the-clock care to survive.
“I was in shock at how tiny she was,” her rescuer recalled upon first meeting the delicate baby.
The Size Of A Tissue Box
When she first arrived at the sanctuary, Lily weighed a mere two pounds.
Her rescuer described her as being “the same size as a Kleenex box.”
Despite her itty-bitty stature, the tiny goat immediately captured the hearts of her caretakers.
“It was just love at first sight, because she was adorable,” her rescuer shared.
A Free-Range House Guest
With dedicated care and plenty of love, Lily began to thrive in her new environment.
About a week or two into her stay, she started showing significant signs of improvement and gained some much-needed strength.
Because she was doing so well, her caretakers decided to let her free-range inside the house.
She happily trotted around the home, acting “just like she was a tiny cat.”
Seeking Out Fluffy Friends
As Lily grew more comfortable, she became fascinated by her fellow housemates.
She showed a deep interest in anything fluffy or anything else that was moving around the home.
She actively sought out the other small animals, eager to make a connection with them.
Her first target for friendship was the family’s resident rabbit, Lawrence.
A Swinging Miss With The Rabbit
Lily was determined to win Lawrence over, but her approach was a bit unconventional.
She would march right up to the rabbit, try to gently headbutt him, and even attempt to jump on him in a playful manner.
Unfortunately for Lily, Lawrence didn’t quite share her enthusiasm for inter-species playtime.
The rabbit simply wasn’t that interested in her playful antics, leaving Lily to look elsewhere for a best friend.
Bean Takes Her Under His Wing
Undeterred by the rabbit’s rejection, Lily moved on to the household felines.
She actively tried to befriend the cats, and this time, her efforts were beautifully rewarded.
One of the family’s older cats, a sweet feline named Bean, decided to take the little goat under his wing.
The two formed an instant bond, with Bean allowing Lily to curl up with him on the couch to sleep.
Deciding She Was A Feline
Lily became completely devoted to her new feline father figure.
She would follow Bean absolutely everywhere, shadowing his every move throughout the day.
Growing up alongside him, Lily seemed to make a conscious decision about her own identity.
“OK, I’m gonna be a cat now,” her rescuer joked. “Bean’s my friend, so I’m just gonna do whatever he wants to do.”
Bringing The Indoors Outside
As Lily continued to get older and much bigger, it was eventually time for her to transition to living outdoors.
At first, the sweet girl clearly missed the comforts of the house and her indoor routine.
To help her adjust, her family decided to bring her favorite parts of the inside out to the yard.
They set up an armchair and a lawn chair for her, where she still curls up in a “strange little circle, almost like she’s a cat.”
Meeting The Barn Crew
While she doesn’t get to see her house-cat mentor Bean as often these days, Lily’s love for felines hasn’t faded.
She now spends her time hanging out with the property’s outdoor barn cats.
Because she still firmly believes she is a cat herself, she was thrilled to meet them.
“Oh, there’s more of me in the world,” her rescuer imagined her thinking. “Come play with me.”
A Reason To Smile
From a fragile, two-pound baby to a happy, cat-loving member of the sanctuary, Lily’s journey has been nothing short of beautiful.
Her unique personality and gentle nature have brought immense joy to everyone around her.
“Myself and my whole family — we just love Lily,” her rescuer shared.
“I’m really, really grateful that we have her in our lives, ’cause she makes me smile every time I see her.”
