Massachusetts Man Adopts Cat From A Hoarder House And Is Shocked By His Personality
Patrick Kelly just wanted a companion, but his new rescue cat Lou completely changed his life with his surprisingly canine personality.
A Difficult Past
Before he found his forever home, a cat named Lou had a very rough start to life.
He had been rescued from a hoarding situation, a chaotic environment that can leave many animals feeling shy or terrified of humans.
Eventually, Lou found his way to the Medfield Animal Shelter, waiting for someone to give him a second chance.
Despite his difficult past, the sweet feline was holding onto a lot of love just waiting to be shared.
A Big Milestone
Patrick Kelly was ready for a change in his life.
He decided it was time to bring a companion into his home, marking a major milestone for him.
Lou would become the very first pet Patrick owned in his adult life.
When Patrick adopted Lou from the Medfield Animal Shelter, he had no idea just how much the cat would change him.
A Surprising Personality
It didn’t take long for Patrick to realize that Lou was not your average feline.
Instead of hiding away or keeping to himself, Lou showed off a remarkably outgoing nature.
“I think he’s more of a dog than a cat,” Patrick explained.
The affectionate rescue cat always wants to be cuddling and staying close to his new dad.
Claiming The Recliner
Lou is an incredibly social creature who knows exactly what he wants in his new home.
Whenever Patrick pulls the recliner out, Lou immediately knows that it is cuddle time.
“When he sees the recliner out, he knows that’s the spot. I’m going to go right there,” Patrick shared.
Once Lou gets comfortable in that chair, he is perfectly content to stay there all day long.
The Life Of The Party
Many cats will scatter and hide under the bed when guests come knocking.
Lou, however, takes a completely different approach to visitors.
If there are a lot of people around the house, Lou will stay right in the middle of the action.
He loves being held and insists on touching or at least being near someone at all times.
A Heavy Situation
While Lou’s personality is larger than life, his waistline was getting a bit too large as well.
The hefty feline weighed in at about 20.2 pounds.
During a checkup, the veterinarian recommended that Lou drop a few pounds for his own health and comfort.
Patrick immediately stepped up to help his best friend get back in shape.
The Diet Plan
To help Lou reach a healthy weight, Patrick has been carefully controlling how much food the cat gets.
Of course, Lou isn’t always thrilled about the new portion sizes.
Patrick often finds himself having to lovingly explain the situation to his hungry companion.
“Lou, I love you. I’m not trying to starve you. I’m trying to help you lose weight,” Patrick joked.
A Changed Man
The bond between Patrick and Lou has grown so strong that it has completely shocked Patrick’s family.
They often ask him, “What happened to you? You were never like this before.”
Patrick proudly admits that he is now “Team cat dad” and is absolutely crazy about his feline friend.
He deeply appreciates all the love and snuggles that Lou freely gives him.
A Childhood Bond Reborn
For Patrick, the connection he shares with Lou goes far beyond a typical pet-owner relationship.
He compares the feeling to the very strong connection he had with his dearly loved childhood dog.
Now, Patrick finds himself missing Lou the moment he leaves the house or goes on vacation.
“I hope whoever’s taking care of him is, you know, giving him all the love and affection that I would when I’m home,” he said.
A Promise For Life
Looking back on their journey, Patrick knows just how fortunate he is to have found the rescue cat.
He hopes that everyone who meets Lou can feel the immense love that the cat radiates.
Lou’s life is no longer defined by the hoarder house he came from, but by the endless affection he receives today.
“Thank you for always being there for me, and I’ll take very good care of you for the rest of your life,” Patrick promised.
