California Veterinarian Brings Home A “Broken” Kitten, And His Daughter’s Reaction Is Everything
A young girl’s birthday wish finally comes true in the form of a special needs kitten named Ru, who quickly proves that her physical limitations won’t slow her down.
A Long-Awaited Dream

For years, a young girl named Violet had a single wish: she wanted a kitten of her very own.
Her dad, Dr. Matt McGlasson, listened patiently to his daughter’s begging, waiting for the perfect moment and the perfect animal to come along.
When Violet’s birthday finally approached, her dad knew it was time to make that long-held dream a reality.
A Litter In Need

The opportunity presented itself when a new litter of kittens arrived at the clinic.
Among the tiny siblings was a special little feline named Ru.
It was immediately clear that Ru was different from the rest of her littermates, facing a physical challenge that would alter the course of her life.
A Heartbreaking Diagnosis

Ru was born with a severe condition: her back legs were totally malformed.
The medical assessment showed that the tiny kitten was never going to be able to use her hind legs to walk.
Because of her severe physical limitations, shelter staff worried that the sweet kitten would never be able to find a forever home.
The Perfect Match

Fortunately for Ru, Violet’s dad is a veterinarian.
Looking at the tiny animal, he knew immediately that their family was uniquely equipped to handle the kitten’s medical needs.
“I knew that we’d be able to take care of her better than anyone,” Matt explained. “So, I was like, ‘Well, I’ll take this little broken one.'”
The Birthday Surprise

The moment of the big reveal was filled with overwhelming emotion.
When Violet finally saw her birthday surprise, she broke down in tears of pure joy, repeating “Oh my God!” as she took in the sight of her new best friend.
To Violet, the kitten’s physical differences didn’t matter in the slightest. She fell completely in love with Ru from day one.
Best Laid Plans

Knowing that Ru would face mobility challenges, her new family wanted to make her life as easy as possible.
Her dad went out and purchased a variety of accessibility aids for the house.
They set up ramps so the kitten could easily get onto the couch, navigate steps, and reach her favorite resting spots without struggling.
Fiercely Independent

However, Ru had absolutely no interest in being treated like she was fragile.
From her very first day in her new home, the determined kitten refused to use any of the ramps or special steps.
Instead, she insisted on doing everything completely on her own, pulling herself up using only her front legs.
Unstoppable Spirit

Ru’s upper body strength quickly became incredible as she learned to navigate the world her own way.
She easily climbs up and down the stairs and pulls herself onto the beds just like any other cat.
“I think that’s one of the really cool things about special needs pets,” Matt noted. “They just adapt and never feel sorry for themselves.”
The Caretaker

Today, Ru isn’t just surviving; she has taken on a vital role in her household.
Despite her own physical challenges, she has become the “perpetual mom” of the house, always looking out for others.
Whenever anyone new comes into the home, the sweet, resilient cat is the first to greet them, ready to offer her unconditional love and care.
