Washington Woman Brings Home Her First Pig, But Never Expected The Incredible Way She Would Change Lives
Amy Angel had owned many pets, but Synergy the Juliana pig was completely different. With the intelligence of a toddler and a gentle heart, this little pig is breaking down walls and helping vulnerable people in ways no human ever could.
A Whole New Experience
Amy Angel had welcomed a wide variety of animals into her life over the years. She thought she knew exactly what to expect when bringing a new pet into her home.
But she had never shared her life with a pig before. When a little Juliana pig named Synergy joined her family, everything changed.

Every morning, Amy greets her with a cheerful "Good morning, Synergy!" The little pig comes barreling out of bed, full of energy for the day ahead.
She even uses the restroom in her own designated spot. Much to everyone’s surprise, the clever pig is fully litter box trained.
A Reluctant Dog Sibling
While Amy was completely smitten, her dog, Ash, wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about his new sister. He preferred to keep his distance from the energetic pig.
Ash would often look at Synergy with a clear message of "Nope, nope, nope." He wanted absolutely nothing to do with her attempts to bond.
Still, Synergy would sometimes bravely climb onto Ash’s bed and look at him. Unimpressed, the dog would simply get up and move away.
Training For A Bigger Purpose
Amy knew that Synergy’s intelligence and gentle nature were meant for something greater. She decided to enroll her in a special program.
Synergy began training to become an official therapy pig through the American Mini Pig Association. Amy wanted to share her pig’s joyful spirit with the community.
Together, they started participating in street outreach programs. Their goal was to engage with and bring comfort to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Breaking Through Barriers
The impact of the little therapy pig was immediate and profound. One day, they approached a 67-year-old woman whom Amy had known through outreach for about five years.
The moment the woman saw Synergy, the biggest smile spread across her face. She just started laughing and laughing, amazed that Amy had brought a pig.
That simple moment of joy broke down years of walls. It created a level of trust that Amy had never been able to achieve before.
A Life-Changing Connection
Because the woman was able to sit and pet Synergy, she finally felt safe enough to accept help. As long as the pig was next to her, she was willing to take the next steps.
With Synergy by her side, Amy was able to help the woman order her birth certificate and get her ID. They even secured her Social Security card and enrolled her in SNAP and Medicaid.

Preparing For The Future
As a Juliana pig, Synergy still has some growing to do. Amy expects her to eventually reach 40 to 80 pounds and stand up to 19 inches tall.
She is patiently waiting for that growth spurt, but she knows it won’t change their bond. "It really doesn’t matter what size she is," Amy said.
They share a deep connection, and Synergy is incredibly affectionate. She loves to rest her head against Amy’s chest just to feel her heartbeat.
The Long Haul Of Love
Amy has had a whole variety pack of animals in her life. Yet, she confidently calls Synergy the sweetest and most intelligent animal she has ever had.
Mini pigs typically live for 15 to 20 years, meaning they are in this for the long haul. Amy cherishes every single day they have together.
Even though their journey has just begun, Amy already dreads the day Synergy won’t be around. For now, they will keep changing lives, one gentle nudge at a time.
