New York Cat Lost His Lifelong Owner, But A Surprise Double Adoption Changed His Fate
When an older Persian cat lost his lifelong owner, his future was uncertain. But a bonded friendship with a kitten paved the way for a beautiful second chapter.
A Sudden Heartbreak

For 11 years, a fluffy Persian cat named Benson knew only one home. He had spent his entire life living comfortably in Manhattan with his beloved owner.
But when his owner sadly passed away, Benson’s world was turned upside down. The senior cat suddenly found himself without a family, unsure of what would come next.
He eventually ended up in the foster care of animal advocate Beth Stern. Benson was safe, but his grieving heart desperately needed a second chance at love.
An Unexpected Package Deal

Firuza was looking to add a pet to her family, but she wasn’t initially looking for a senior Persian cat. She had her eye on a Siamese kitten named Webster.
When she sent an inquiry about adopting the young kitten, Beth Stern gave her a surprising update.
She explained that Webster and Benson were a bonded pair. If Firuza wanted the kitten, it had to be a “double adoption only.”
Saying Yes To A Senior

Without hesitation, Firuza agreed to take them both. She had never owned a Persian cat before, but she was willing to open her heart to the 11-year-old feline.
“I was like, ‘Okay,'” Firuza recalled. She knew that keeping the bonded friends together was the right thing to do.
Benson is now 14 years old, and the decision to bring him home has brought endless joy into Firuza’s life.
Discovering His Rusty Voice

As Benson settled into his new environment, his true personality began to shine. Firuza quickly learned that her new senior cat was incredibly vocal.
“Benson’s love for talking was a big surprise,” she shared. He has a unique, “rusty” meow that he uses to communicate his feelings.
Whenever Firuza talks to him, he makes sure to talk right back, proving that he has plenty to say in his golden years.
Looks Can Be Deceiving
With his flat face and serious expression, Benson often gives off a stern first impression. “Everybody who sees him for the first time, they’re like, ‘Oh, you look like that grumpy cat,'” Firuza explained.
But his looks couldn’t be further from his actual personality. Benson is incredibly affectionate and craves human contact.
He loves to be held, happily accepts kisses, and gets especially cuddly right after he has been groomed.
Living Like A King
Today, the senior cat is affectionately known as “King Benson.” He knows exactly what he wants and enjoys a high quality of life.
Firuza jokes that he can be a bit of a snob, but he completely owns it. He is deeply attached to his new mom and wants to be by her side constantly.
“It’s hard for me sometimes to leave the house,” she admitted. “He wants to be with me all the time.”
A Message From The Past
Benson’s beautiful new life hasn’t gone unnoticed by those who knew him before. A friend of Benson’s previous owner actually reached out to Firuza.
This friend had helped care for Benson at the end of his original mom’s life journey, and she was thrilled to see the cat thriving.
She sent Firuza heartfelt messages, expressing her deep gratitude that Benson was safe, loved, and living such a wonderful life.
A Young Boy At Heart
Benson now shares his home with four cats in total, including his bonded buddy Webster and another cat named Winston. All of them are living their absolute best lives together.
Despite his senior status, Benson is thriving in his second chapter. “It’s hard to even believe that he’s an old man,” Firuza said. “He’s in his prime.”
He is a sweet, kind, and needy gentleman who found the perfect family when he needed it most. As Firuza beautifully put it, he truly is “a young boy in an old body.”
