Virginia Cow Was Cast Aside At 3 Days Old, But Then She Became A 1,400-Pound Lap Dog
When a tiny dairy calf was destined to be discarded, one family stepped in to give her a second chance. They never expected her to grow into a massive, affectionate “puppy”—or that she would soon be joined by a miniature cow who fits right in with their 13 dogs.
A Tiny Calf Destined For Nothing
Cows are often seen simply as livestock, grazing quietly in fields without much need for human affection.
But for one family, the reality of bovine companionship turned out to be wildly different.
They wanted to rescue a dairy cow that a farmer would otherwise just give up for free.
They found a tiny calf named Jenna, who had been born with a twin brother.
In the dairy industry, a female born with a male twin has a very high chance of being infertile, meaning farms typically have no use for them.
An SUV Ride To A New Life
Determined to save her, Jenna’s new family drove down to North Carolina to pick her up.
At just three days old, the tiny calf was loaded into the back of an SUV for the ride home.
“She was just like this cute little ball of fluff back there,” her rescuer recalled.
Unsure of what was happening, the little calf was incredibly timid during the journey.
There was a distinct shyness to her, but it wouldn’t take long for her true spirit to shine through.
The Jenna Show Begins
As Jenna settled into her new home, she slowly started showing off her vibrant personality.
She quickly realized that she loved being the center of attention and found clever ways to get it.
She even claimed her own window at the house, knocking on the glass whenever she wanted her family to notice her.
“If we leave, like she’s very dramatic and very upset about us,” her owner explained.
With an attitude unlike any other animal they had ever met, her family lovingly dubbed their daily life “the Jenna show.”
A 1,400-Pound Lap Puppy
Despite her massive size, Jenna truly believes she is just a big dog.
She loves to follow her family around the yard, even keeping them company while they clean the chicken area.
Her absolute favorite activity, however, is listening to live music.
As soon as her owner sits down to play the guitar and sing, Jenna comes over to rest her heavy head on them.
“She’s just like happy and relaxed. She closes her eyes and just goes to sleep,” her rescuer shared, calling her a 1,400-pound lap puppy.
An Unbelievable Craigslist Discovery
Jenna wasn’t the only bovine surprise this family would encounter.
One day, they stumbled upon an unusual listing on Craigslist for a miniature cow named Haru.
“At first, we weren’t sure if it was real because no one sells a mini cow on Craigslist,” they admitted.
It turned out to be an older couple who simply couldn’t care for the little cow properly anymore.
Without hesitation, the family agreed to take Haru into their home and give him a fresh start.
A Timid Arrival On The Hill
When the man drove up to drop Haru off, the little cow was terrified.
He was pulled out of a small trailer and immediately bolted for the corner of the property, retreating to the top of a hill.
Haru didn’t want to interact with anyone and looked exactly like a “pouting cow.”
His new family was nervous, especially since they still needed to introduce him to the rest of their massive animal crew.
They decided to give him some space and let their pack of rescue dogs out to see what would happen.
The Canine Icebreakers
The family currently has 13 dogs in the house, and a stampede of pups can be overwhelming.
“Being surrounded by 10 dogs, I imagine, is a little bit intimidating,” his owner noted.
At first, the dogs were pretty freaked out by the miniature cow in their yard.
But as soon as Haru saw the dogs running around, his fear shifted into curiosity.
He finally came down from the hill and started exploring the yard right alongside them.
One Of The Pack
Today, Haru is completely integrated into the dog pack, and the pups recognize him as just one of the family.
He is incredibly gentle with them, taking part in their grooming routines and even playing games of chase and hide-and-seek.
When the family hangs out outside, the dogs lay down nearby, and Haru trots over to nap right in the middle of the pile.
People are always shocked to hear that dogs and cows mix so beautifully, but this unique family proves that love knows no species.
Both Jenna and Haru were given a second chance, and in return, they added an immeasurable amount of joy, fun, and puppy-like love to their rescuers’ lives.
