Get ready for a heartwarming tale that proves our feline friends are not just independent creatures; they are capable of gratitude and affection.
Meet Leo, an endearing one-eared cat whose life journey has been anything but easy.
Leo’s story took a dark turn when his owner passed away, leaving his three cats to his son, including Leo. Unfortunately, the son immediately euthanized two kitties, showing no desire to care for them.
He kept Leo outside with minimal sources of food and water, which is not even close to his past life.
At that time, Leo was already a senior cat, estimated to be around 10–12 years old, who wasn’t used to the harsh life outdoors.
Thankfully, a compassionate woman named Louise came to his rescue as soon as she learned of Leo’s plight. Through her determination, she convinced the man to surrender Leo to her care.
Leo was in a bad condition and needed immediate help. Upon seeing him, Louise knew that she needed to take him to the veterinary hospital right away. Yet, the challenges continued as no shelter could take him in.
Luckily, Baby Kitten Rescue from Los Angeles, CA, stepped in to support Leo’s medical care, while Louise decided to foster him. Together, they embarked on a challenging journey to help Leo reclaim his health and happiness.
Caroline Grace, founder of Baby Kitten Rescue, described Leo’s arrival at their rescue:
“Leo was incredibly emaciated, dehydrated, anemic from fleas, and had a broken tooth (and bad teeth). He was so matted that he had to be shaved. He was missing part of his right ear from an old injury and limping from an old uncared-for injury to his right leg.”
However, Leo’s indomitable spirit shone through despite his physical condition. He displayed remarkable friendliness and affection as if he knew that help had finally arrived.
Leo’s greatest desire was simple – he craved love and companionship, and he was about to receive much more than that. Grace added:
“We are going to do everything we can to give this sweet boy a happy, pain-free, and loved rest of his life.”
After only a few days of adjusting back to indoor life, Leo slowly started coming out of his shell. He had his “safe spot” behind the chair, but he never missed the opportunity to greet the human who saved him.
So, whenever Louise entered the room, he came over to her. Louise said:
“He started walking in between my legs and purring. He wanted all the love and followed me around like a puppy.”
Leo received specialized medications and treatments to improve his overall health. After getting a full dental, Leo was a completely new cat.
His appetite increased, and the fact he missed a few teeth didn’t hold him back. He was eating like a champ, which also helped him gain more energy to play.
Leo turned out to be a great food lover, but there’s someone he loved more than food – Louise.
Every morning, he would wake her with soft, sweet meows, expressing gratitude with head butts and face rubs. It was as if he thanked her each morning for saving his life and offering a second chance.
After thanking and greeting Louise, he would go to his food bowl, patiently waiting for breakfast.
Thanks to the medical care, love, and affection he received, Leo began to thrive. His hind legs healed well, enabling him to walk and run like any other cat. Grace shared:
“He has some tenderness from arthritis, so he saw our physical therapy vet, who gave us some exercises to do with him daily. He will be receiving acupuncture next week to help.”
Despite his condition, she added:
“Leo is the sweetest, most gentle, and most loving boy. All he wants to do is rub on you and give you head bumps.”
However, as time passed, Leo’s preference for solitude became evident. He was not inclined to share his space with other pets, preferring a quiet environment and a human’s undivided attention.
Thankfully, a foster volunteer, Cindy from Los Angeles, welcomed Leo into her home, which he now considers his kingdom. Grace said:
“We expected him to need time to adjust to a new environment, but within minutes, he was exploring all over his new home, giving Cindy head bumps, and purring up a storm. He is already loving it there.”
Leo was in good hands and his condition started to improve; however, the journey to a forever home wasn’t very easy for him. He still needed a lot of treatments to become a perfectly healthy feline.
Despite ongoing treatments for his health, Leo thrived in his new environment. The joy on Leo’s face was unmistakable; he had the entire home and Cindy’s affection all to himself.
Every morning, he would greet Cindy with soft meows and then proceed to his food bowl, ready for breakfast. What a polite kitty, right?
Cindy instantly fell in love with Leo and his charming personality. Grace said:
“He loves cuddling and watching TV with his foster mom and has even started purring when he sees her. His resilience and unbreakable sweet spirit is an absolute inspiration. Despite everything he’s been through, Leo is just a big mushy ball of love. I’m so happy we get to give this sweet boy a second chance at a safe, loved, and happy life.”
Today, Leo is thriving, cherishing his life, home, and, of course, his foster mom. He’s had 3 months of Solensia injections, an arthritis medication given once a month by the vet to help reduce inflammation.
Thanks to that, Leo can move more easily and pain-free. Grace shared:
“His foster mom, Cindy, says he’s the sweetest boy. Cindy recently had a health scare, and Leo didn’t leave her side and doted on her with snuggles and love.”
Leo’s journey has been one of resilience and transformation. As he continues to improve, Leo’s bright personality shines even more brightly.
It’s only a matter of time before this remarkable feline finds his forever home, and there’s no doubt he deserves the very best life has to offer.
