A disabled pregnant cat was walking down the street, barely able to move her back legs. Heartbroken to see her in such a condition, a good Samaritan decided to take care of the poor feline.
They took the cat to the vet to ensure she received the necessary care. The examination revealed a fracture of the hind leg that hadn’t healed properly, resulting in a permanent disability.
Since she was pregnant, the vet warned about potential difficulties she might face while giving birth due to her injured back leg.
The kitty, now named Pingguo, went into labor very shortly afterward. Her rescuers were with her every step of the way, assisting her during the whole process.
They were a bit surprised, though, when she kept having contractions one kitten after the other. Seven hours and 6 healthy kittens later, the brave mama could finally relax.
Substitute Mama Saves The Day
However, the idyll didn’t last long, as Pingguo showed concerning symptoms only a day after giving birth. She had trouble breathing and had to go to the vet clinic again.
The issue was potentially life-threatening and required serious measures. Pingguo had postpartum hypocalcemia, a severe condition that prevented her from nursing her newborn babies further.
The kittens had to be separated from their sick mom until she stabilized. Since they were too little to survive without a mother, the only option was to find another nursing cat who would hopefully accept them.
Fortunately, another cat named Black And White had given birth to two kittens a while before. The rescue team introduced them, hoping to “sneak” an additional six into her litter.
Black And White was an amazing mother with strong nursing instincts and she instantly accepted the new babies. She started nursing them, unfazed by the obvious size difference between her kittens and newcomers.
Meanwhile, Pingguo was going through a difficult time being separated from her babies. She desperately searched for them everywhere, but the babies weren’t coming back…at least for a while.
The Original Mama Still Waits For Her Babies
Twelve days went by and Pingguo’s health significantly improved, meaning the moment of the kittens’ return was getting closer. Yet, it was uncertain if Pingguo would want her babies back after all this time.
At first, they only brought back one kitten, to reduce the chances of her reacting aggressively and rejecting them. Luckily, Pingguo didn’t forget her kittens and immediately rushed to groom and nurse her baby.
From Rivals To Co-Parents
However, an unexpected problem arose when another furry resident in the house, a cat named Big Eyes, set her eyes on Pingguo’s baby. She recently gave birth too, and her motherly instincts were very strong.
In the following days, the two mothers were constantly fighting, each one trying to have the baby for herself. They only managed to make amends once Pingguo’s entire litter was back, but then another issue appeared…
Twenty days after the initial separation, it was time to bring back Pinggguo’s whole litter. Still concerned about whether she would recognize and accept the babies back, her caregivers were extremely cautious.
It turned out that the worries were in vain because Pingguo was an amazing mother! She remembered her kittens the moment she saw them and was eager to reunite with her little ones.
She immediately started taking care of them, trying to make up for all the missed time. But six kittens are a lot of work, and a single mother can get exhausted quickly. She turned to her friend for help and Big Eyes was more than happy to assist.
Two mothers shared the duties and responsibilities, enjoying moments of motherhood, unaware that it would abruptly change once again…
Overcoming The Final Challenge
It started with the weakest kitten falling ill, exhibiting symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.
Before long, other kittens began to show the same symptoms and were all taken to the hospital. Though they received immediate treatment, they still had to stay in a hospital for a while.
The medical staff cared for them for a couple of days, ensuring they received all the fluids they needed to recover. Meanwhile, two worried mothers anxiously awaited their babies’ return at home.
After several days of anticipation, the babies were finally taken back home. With all the ups and downs behind them, this adorable furry family could finally relax and enjoy their time together.
