Recently, volunteers from Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions in Las Vegas were shocked after discovering a small crate left at their door.
They approached the crate to check what was inside and witnessed a heartbreaking sight.
Upon opening the crate, the volunteers discovered a scared tabby cat huddled in the corner, sitting on a wet towel soaked in urine.
Despite their heartbreak over the cat’s sad fate, the rescuers were relieved she was left at a place where she could receive a second chance at life. The rescue shared in an interview:
“We had no idea how long she had been in the crate, but thankfully, she didn’t spend long outside our center before we found her.”
However, just as the volunteers took the scared cat in, they discovered a handwritten note attached to the crate that broke their hearts, saying:
“My mom can’t care for me. Please take care of me. I promise I’m a good cat!”
Moved by the heart-wrenching message, the volunteers had no choice but to take the poor cat in and offer her a helping hand. They were relieved she was left at the shelter and not abandoned on the streets.
The shelter instantly cleaned up the cat and thoroughly examined her, only to discover she had another surprise for them. The shelter said:
“The good news was she appeared healthy. However, she was very pregnant.”
Upon learning about the cat from the crate, Ellen Richter, an experienced carer for the rescue, immediately offered to foster the future mother cat, affectionately naming her Liberty Belle.
Liberty quickly settled in her foster home and expressed gratitude to Ellen for taking her in. She slowly started coming out of her shell, showing off her big belly and purring loudly.
Just two days after Liberty arrived at her foster home, she delivered a heartwarming surprise for Ellen. With her foster mom by her side, Liberty gave birth to six healthy kittens. Ellen shared:
“It’s been a long evening, but I’m thankful she’s done. This will be the last litter she will have to go through.”
Liberty took her role as a mother seriously, instantly caring for her babies, feeding them, and never leaving their side. She became very protective of her kittens but enjoyed receiving cuddles herself.
Thankfully, everything turned out better than expected for both Liberty and her babies. Once her kittens are old enough, they will continue their journey with loving families, while she will never have to raise a litter again.
Liberty will be spayed and have a chance to find a forever home where she will be truly loved for the rest of her life.
