Grieving Pup Adopts An Orphaned Kitten In California And Together They Find Healing And Love

Sharing is caring!

An abandoned kitten and a grieving mama dog crossed paths just when they needed each other the most. Both had been through so much, but together, they found a way to heal and bring happiness back into their lives.

This is the sweet story of Hopper and Hazy, an unlikely duo who turned their sadness into something beautiful.

Hopper was discovered all alone in a family’s backyard. This tiny cream-colored tabby kitten, no more than a few weeks old, had no mom or any siblings to comfort him.

His tiny meows tugged at the hearts of the family who found him. They knew he needed more than just refuge – he needed love.

That’s when they turned to the Yolo County SPCA, a place in California where countless animals had found second chances.

The staff immediately thought of a foster home that might be just right for Hopper. It was a home where healing and love had been waiting for this little guy.

The shelter shared in an interview:

“He was a baby without a mom, but not for long.”

Just a little while before, another soul had been searching for her own piece of happiness. Hazy, a sweet and gentle dog, had come to the SPCA as a stray, carrying the promise of new life within her.

But life had other plans. Despite her best efforts as a mother, none of her puppies survived.

The grief was unbearable. Her first night in her foster home was filled with cries, as though she was calling out to the little ones she had lost.

When Hopper arrived at the foster home, it was like a light had switched on for Hazy. As soon as she heard Hopper crying, her eyes sparkled. It was as if their hearts had been waiting for this moment, two broken pieces fitting together perfectly.

Without wasting a minute, Hazy took Hopper in like he was her own. The kitten, so small and fragile, snuggled into her, seeking warmth and comfort.

Even though Hopper still needed bottle feeding to grow strong, Hazy became his everything – his protector, his playmate, and his mom. The SPCA shared:

“These two have become the cutest little family, and we are so happy we got to save them both.”

In the days that followed, the two formed a bond that left everyone who saw them in awe.

Hopper’s playful kitten antics brought out a new side of Hazy. She became a bundle of joy, chasing Hopper around and curling up with him when playtime was over, as the rescue shared:

“Hazy has blossomed to be a fun-loving and affectionate little ball of energy, and Hopper is continuing to be a lively and happy kitten.”

Hazy treated Hopper like her son, doting on him and tolerating every bit of his mischievous energy. He would zoom through the house, climb whatever he could find, and pounce on Hazy with his tiny paws.

And every night, when the excitement settled, Hopper would find his way to her side, purring happily as he drifted off to sleep.

Their humans couldn’t help but fall in love with the pair. Watching them heal each other was nothing short of magical.

Hopper, once a lonely kitten, now had a mom who adored him, and Hazy, once a grieving dog, had found joy and purpose again.

Now, their days are filled with laughter and love. Hazy enjoys the attention of her people while Hopper explores the world with endless curiosity. At night, they always return to the same spot, side by side, their hearts finally at peace.

Though their stories began with loss, Hopper and Hazy found each other and created something beautiful – an extraordinary bond that turned heartache into happiness.

Thanks to the Yolo County SPCA, they’ve both discovered what it means to truly be home.
