Late-night surprises aren’t uncommon for police officers, but the last thing anyone expected was a four-legged visitor strutting into the station like he had official business.
He wasn’t a criminal, a suspect, or even lost – just a very friendly, confident dog who seemed to know exactly what he was doing.
Meet Chico, a Shepsky (a mix of German Shepherd and Husky) who had no intention of causing trouble. Well, unless you count being irresistibly charming as a crime.

Chico is barely a year old, still very much a puppy at heart, and has a personality that doesn’t quite match his intended role as a guard dog.
His owner, Edward Alvarado, imagined Chico as a fearless protector, thanks to his German Shepherd genes. But the Husky side? That part took over in full force.
Chico is playful, social, and just a little too curious for his own good. Sitting still isn’t exactly his thing, which he proved one night when the boredom got the best of him.
Without anyone noticing, Chico set off on a secret adventure. Where was he going? Who knows. But his paws led him straight to the Odessa Police Department, a whole mile away from his home.

Strolling in like he owned the place, he casually propped his front paws onto the counter, as if he had something important to report.
The officers on duty were stunned. It’s not every day that a dog comes into a police station in the middle of the night with that much confidence.
Of course, nobody there spoke fluent dog, so they weren’t exactly sure what Chico wanted. Was he lost? Was he searching for someone? Or was he there to turn himself in for being too adorable?
Whatever his motive, one thing was clear: he wasn’t nervous or scared. In fact, he seemed pretty pleased with himself.

And since he was in such a great mood, the officers did what anyone would do when faced with a happy, fluffy visitor at 3 AM – they started to play fetch!
But as much fun as they were having, they had to figure out where this mysterious pup belonged. Chico was wearing a collar, but his tags were missing.
Hoping to find his family, the officers took some photos and shared them online. Just in case, they also called Animal Control to check for a microchip.
But Chico? He had other plans. The moment he realized someone was about to take him somewhere, he bolted. Just like that, he disappeared into the night again.

For a moment, the officers worried he might have gotten even more lost. But Chico knew exactly what he was doing.
Instead of waiting to be escorted home, he simply took himself back. By the time his owner woke up, Chico was already there, looking as innocent as ever.
Alvarado wouldn’t have even known about his pup’s little stunt if not for his cousin, who happened to see Chico’s pictures online.
Shocked, he called the police to let them know his mischievous buddy was safe and sound.

The officers, amused by the whole thing, updated their post, sharing:
“We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave… We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”
A few days later, Alvarado decided to take Chico back to the station, this time on purpose. As soon as they arrived, Chico’s tail went into overdrive.
The pup was overjoyed to see his police buddies again, and the feeling was definitely mutual. Something tells me this won’t be his last visit!
