You know those days when you’re just going through the motions, expecting everything to be normal. You wake up, follow your usual routine, and assume the day will unfold just like any other.
But then, out of nowhere, something unexpected stops you in your tracks and turns an ordinary day into something unforgettable.
That was exactly how Trevor Hayes’s day started out until he stumbled upon something that would change his entire routine.
Trevor is a plumber who spends most of his days fixing pipes and helping people with whatever plumbing issues they have. It’s a steady routine, nothing too exciting. But one day, while heading to a client’s house, Trevor’s day took an unexpected turn.

As he was walking toward a garage, something caught his eye – a little brown ball of feathers sitting oddly on the ground. It looked out of place, almost like it had been dropped there by accident.
At first, Trevor wasn’t sure what he was looking at. But when it turned around and locked eyes with him, his heart sank. He instantly knew something wasn’t right.
The little owl just stared at him, and it didn’t look healthy. It didn’t try to fly away, it just sat there, weak and vulnerable. Trevor could tell this poor bird needed help, but he wasn’t sure what was wrong, as he shared in an interview:
“It was just staring at me and didn’t look like it was doing good.”

Trevor was no stranger to seeing wildlife around town. But an owl? In broad daylight? That was something he’d never encountered before, especially not so close to a house.
Thinking it might just be disoriented, he decided to wait a bit. He went ahead and worked on his plumbing job, hoping the owl would recover on its own and fly away, back to where it belonged.
But when he returned after finishing, his heart broke to find the bird still there, in the exact same spot, looking just as weak and helpless as before. He knew he had to do something.
So he knocked on the door of the house nearby, hoping to get some help, but no one answered. He didn’t let that stop him, though.

Realizing that this little owl needed professional care, Trevor knew he couldn’t handle the situation alone. He needed someone who truly understood how to help a fragile, possibly injured bird.
So, he reached out to RAPTOR Inc., a well-known wildlife rehabilitation center in Milford, Ohio. Their experts guided him on how to safely handle the owl and get it the care it needed.
Trevor didn’t waste a second. He gathered a box, thick gloves, and a drop cloth and rushed back. He gently placed the owl in the box and headed toward the rescue center.
The staff there were amazing. They met him with open arms, ready to give the owl the best care possible.

The owl was in good hands now, surrounded by people who understood exactly what it needed.
It didn’t take long for Trevor to hear the good news: the owl was doing well, starting to perk up and regain its strength. Soon, it was moved into a larger space at the facility, where it would heal, gain strength, and prepare to return to the wild.
Soon, this amazing bird will soar through the sky once more, free and strong. Trevor couldn’t be happier knowing he played a part in that.
He hadn’t expected his day to take such a turn, but helping the little owl made it one he’d never forget.
