Andrew was driving his tow truck through the wooded roads of Fort Wayne, Indiana when something made him do a double take. A tiny face. Barely visible through the mess of sticks and mud, but definitely there.
His heart kicked up a notch. Was that… a dog?
He pulled over and climbed out, stepping carefully into the underbrush and scanning the area. And then, there it was: a little brown dog looking up at him with wide, nervous eyes.
The poor guy looked completely lost.

Andrew knew better than to rush in. A scared dog could take off in a heartbeat, and the last thing he wanted was for this pup to disappear deeper into the woods.
So, thinking fast, Andrew snapped a picture and posted it online. He also sent it to Lost Dogs of Fort Wayne (LDFW), a local group that helps reunite missing pets with their families.
If someone was out there searching for this little guy, he wanted to give them the best chance of finding him.
As soon as LDFW saw the photo, they jumped into action. And they weren’t alone for long. Four more kind-hearted people joined in. Nobody could stand the thought of that little pup spending another night scared and alone.

Finding him wasn’t easy. By the time the search party spotted him again, he had made his way across a creek, tucked away in the brush like he was trying to disappear.
But these folks weren’t about to give up. Moving slowly, they worked together until, finally, they had him. Safe. Wrapped up. On his way to warmth and care.
They brought him straight to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC), where he could finally get the medical attention he needed.
The shelter staff took one look at him and knew he deserved a name full of love and hope. They called him Joey.

When he arrived at the shelter, Joey was quiet. He just lay there, exhausted, as if his tiny body had finally realized it could rest. But then, someone handed him a toy.
That’s when the magic happened.
Joey’s tail gave a tiny wag. Then another. And suddenly, he was playing, pouncing, tossing the toy, rolling around like a puppy who had never known anything but happiness.
Watching him, the shelter staff couldn’t help but smile. This little guy had been through so much, yet here he was, still full of joy.
As the days passed, Joey only got stronger. His once-dull eyes lit up with confidence, his movements became bouncier, and it was clear he was finally feeling safe.

The shelter staff couldn’t get enough of him. They shared his story online, hoping it would inspire others. And then, someone special saw him.
A woman scrolled past Joey’s picture and felt something deep in her heart. She had to meet him.
The moment she walked into the shelter, Joey knew. His tail went into overdrive, wagging so hard it was a blur.
She knelt down, and he immediately pressed into her, like he had been waiting for her all along. The connection was instant, undeniable.

Not long after, Joey left the shelter for good and headed home with his new family. He didn’t just get a loving owner; he got a whole crew, including another dog and two cats.
No more cold nights. No more lonely days. Just a life full of belly rubs, playtime, and love.
Joey wasn’t just rescued – he found where he truly belonged. And from the way he wags his tail every day, it’s clear he knows it too.
