Sadly, there are so many stories of animals left behind. It’s especially heartbreaking when a dog, who only wants to be loved, is cast aside when they need care the most.
One such moment was when a sweet mother dog gave birth to her puppies, but instead of finding safety and warmth, she found the cold streets.
This Cocker Spaniel, with her four tiny babies, was abandoned by people who didn’t care enough to offer them even a chance. But fortunately, not everyone lacks a heart.
One day, a man who regularly fed stray dogs came across something under a wall. When he looked closer, he saw the trembling mother dog, nursing her four newborns in the most desperate of circumstances.
He knew she hadn’t ended up there by accident. She’d either been abandoned while pregnant or dumped after giving birth.
The man was stunned, heartbroken, and angry all at once, sharing in a YouTube video:
“How can this poor girl manage to survive here? She is so little.”
Her little body was struggling, her will to live nearly gone, but her puppies gave her just enough strength to keep going.
Knowing he couldn’t leave this little family there, the kind man fed them and then brought them into his yard, providing a warm place for them to rest, along with food and fresh water.
It was everything they needed to start over.
As he looked at the puppies, he realized they weren’t purebred, which might have been the reason they were abandoned. But that only fueled his desire to help them even more.
While others may have seen them as less than perfect, this man saw their chance for a new beginning, sharing:
“I did not leave them there because wicked people would come and take them away in order to sell them and make money.”
And with that, the mother dog began to relax. Slowly, he gained her trust, and after a much-needed bath, she was able to clean her puppies.
After a restful night, the man took the mama dog to a vet, and though the separation from her babies was hard, it was necessary for her health.
She was treated for an infection, as the man explained:
“Our vet had her treated. He started to give her antibiotics due to the discharge in her uterine cervix after giving birth.”
After the vet visit, he took her to a park so she could relax and soak up the sunshine. But while she seemed to enjoy the fresh air, there was still a sadness in her eyes.
She kept looking around, searching for her puppies. It was clear that no matter how peaceful the moment was, her heart was still with them.
So, her rescuer picked her up and took her back to her pups. As soon as she was close, she knew exactly where they were.
When they were finally reunited, he could see just how strong that bond was. The love between them was everything.
At that moment, the man realized that a mother’s love is the strongest force in the world, and it’s worth fighting for, no matter what. His kindness gave them a second chance at life, and in her eyes, he could see how grateful she was.
It was a simple act of love, but it meant everything to this mama who’d never forget the one who gave her family a fresh start.
