Mysterious ‘Dog’ With Jar On Head Found In Florida Turns Out To Be A Rare Creature Needing Help

Imagine sitting on your porch, enjoying a warm cup of coffee on an ordinary day, when suddenly, you spot a mysterious creature walking down your street with a jar stuck on its head.

Well, for the residents of Pasco County, Florida, this wasn’t just a figment of imagination – it was all too real.

Concerned for their safety and the safety of their children, the local community quickly took to social media, warning others about the strange, dog-like visitor that had appeared in their neighborhood.

The word of the unusual sighting quickly reached Lea Elise Haverstock, the founder of Maxx and Me Pet Rescue, who wasted no time jumping into action.

In an interview, Haverstock shared the details of the strange situation in Florida, saying:

“There was a post that an emaciated black ‘dog’ was loose with a glass jar on its head. I came out to join that search.”

Although she wasn’t completely sure if the animal was a dog, this compassionate rescuer and animal lover was certain of one thing: The animal was in desperate need of help.

As she explained:

“I was distressed knowing this animal, whatever it was, had a jar on its head and could not eat.”

Thankfully, Haverstock didn’t have to wonder about the mysterious animal for long.

An officer from Pasco County Animal Services quickly spotted the creature and identified it as a black coyote.

While coyotes aren’t uncommon in the area – since they often make dens in the dense trees and undeveloped land nearby – Haverstock mentioned in the interview that they aren’t exactly abundant either.

But what made this sighting particularly interesting and rare was the coyote’s striking black coat, a condition known as melanism, which is rarely seen in the wild.

The rescue team quickly gathered, and the search for the rare black coyote began.

After eight long hours of combing through the woods, hoping for a glimpse of the elusive animal, the rescuers finally spotted it in the open.

Without hesitation, Haverstock sprang into action, chasing after the coyote, scooping it up into her arms, and calling out for help. What a heroic move, right?

One of the other rescuers heard her call and rushed to assist, carefully removing the jar from the coyote’s head.

Finally free, after who knows how long, the beautiful coyote bolted into the wilderness, likely already thinking about the meal it was about to enjoy.

Haverstock knows she’ll never forget this incredible rescue and the lasting impact it had on her. 

Reflecting on the experience, she shared: 

“No matter the animal you see that needs your help, don’t ever give up! Fight for that animal no matter if that is uncomfortable [or if] it puts you in a position where you have to take a stand. Be a warrior for helpless animals, [be] kind, compassionate and brave.”

Her words are a powerful reminder that a single act of courage can make all the difference. 

In a situation that could have ended in tragedy, it was kindness and swift action that turned the story into one of hope.
