Ohio Town Horrified After Cat Found In Freezer And Dog Found Shot, Both Linked To Same Owner

For the rescuers at Animal Charity of Ohio, one particular gas station in Youngstown has become a place they know too well… and for all the wrong reasons.

It was early in the morning when a heartbreaking call came in. A cat was locked inside a commercial freezer behind that gas station.

All she had was a cold floor and what looked like a bagel tossed in. No living being deserves that.

Thankfully, a Youngstown police officer got to the scene fast and reached out to Animal Charity’s humane agents.

When the rescuers arrived and pulled her from that freezing nightmare, they knew this sweet girl needed a new start.

They named her Kali. She’s now in warm, loving hands at the shelter, getting the care she should’ve had from the start.

But here’s where the story takes an unbelievable and heartbreaking turn.

Just a couple months earlier, another emergency rocked the rescue team. While transporting an injured pup to their clinic, they were suddenly rerouted to another call, another animal in distress.

When they arrived, their hearts sank. The dog they were called to help wasn’t just any dog…

It was Koda. A familiar face. A sweet girl who had previously stayed with them while her owner was hospitalized.

But this time, Koda wasn’t just in for boarding. The dog was hurt. Badly.

There was a wound on her neck. At first, no one could tell exactly what had happened. But the more they looked, the more devastating the reality became.

Koda’s injury appeared to be from a gunshot. And she wasn’t moving, only her head showed signs of strength.

Her spinal cord was swollen, and everything pointed to unspeakable trauma.

Even worse, Koda’s suffering went unnoticed for hours. The police had been on the scene, but the rescuers weren’t notified right away.

Koda had been left to endure her pain far too long, and by the time Animal Charity got there, she was in critical condition, as the rescue shared in a Facebook post:

“We were not notified for SEVERAL HOURS. We were also not told that she was injured… This is an absolute nightmare. We don’t know if she was injured by her owner… There was major oversight and she was suffering.”

They rushed her to MedVet Akron, where tests were done and treatment began immediately.

Little by little, Koda started to fight her way back. It’s been a long road but this brave girl is showing signs of healing.

She’s moving her back legs now. She’s learning to sit up with help and even uses her voice to ask for attention.

She’s still got a long journey ahead, but she’s not giving up. And neither is anyone around her.

As if this story wasn’t already heartbreaking enough, there’s a piece that ties everything together in the saddest way.

And yes, you guessed it. Both Kali and Koda had the same owner. That realization hit hard.

After Koda was taken in for medical care, rescuers returned to check on the home only to find the front door wide open. In all the chaos, little Kali had slipped out. That’s how she ended up locked inside that freezer, frightened, freezing, and forgotten.

Thankfully, both Kali and Koda are now safe in the loving care of Animal Charity of Ohio. But the fact that they had to go through all this just makes their rescue even more emotional.

Now that the pieces are coming together, it’s clear both Kali and Koda were victims of the same heartbreaking neglect.

And it wasn’t not just cruelty, it was repeated, deliberate abuse.

But what matters most now is that both Koda and Kali are finally surrounded by love, safety, and people who truly care.

They’re healing, slowly but surely, with a whole community rooting for them.

Koda and Kali aren’t just victims; they’re fighters. They’re survivors. They’ve held on, even in the darkest moments, and now they’re getting the second chance they’ve always deserved.
