Dumped In The Trash, These Babies Thought No One Would Ever Come To Save Them
Not all treasure is gold. Sometimes, it has floppy ears and tiny paws.
The heat was rising fast. People were rushing past the bus station, barely noticing the crumpled piles of trash stacked on the curb.
But tucked into one of those trash heaps, like forgotten toys, were two tiny lives quietly clinging on.
It’s hard to imagine how anyone could look at a baby dog and walk away, but that’s exactly what happened to these little pups.
No mom in sight. No siblings around. Just two one-month-old babies curled up on a pile of garbage, lying among old plastic and soggy paper.
It broke the heart of the kind stranger who spotted them. He grabbed his phone and called Isla Animal, a rescue that never turns their back on animals in need.
And sure enough, help came fast. Lina Patino, the founder of the group, and her rescue partner, Jennifer Ponsford, rushed straight to the scene. They didn’t stop to think. They just acted.
Because when you love dogs the way they do, you don’t waste a second.
The puppies were in an awful state. Their little bellies were puffed up with parasites, their tiny bodies crawling with ticks, and their fur was dull and patchy.
They looked more like shadows than actual pups, as Lina shared in an interview:
“They were malnourished … we gave them food, water, antiparasitic medication and applied tick repellent. The first 24 hours, they were so depressed and lethargic that I thought they wouldn’t make it.”
Clearly, they wouldn’t have lasted much longer in that heat.
But Lina and Jennifer weren’t about to let these babies fade away. They named them Enrique and Beto and whisked them off to their rescue center.
Once there, the pups got food, fresh water, meds for the parasites, and special baths to start treating their skin, as Lina shared:
“By the third day, they had more energy than ever before. We gave them medicated baths for their skin conditions, and they’ve been doing great ever since.”
These brothers weren’t ready to give up just yet.
Before long, Enrique and Beto were up and wobbling around the shelter. With each new day, they gained more joy and more life.
Now, just shy of two months old, they’re almost unrecognizable from the weak pups they once were. They’re clean, fluffy, and full of puppy mischief.
Their bellies are round from healthy meals, their eyes are bright, and their energy is endless.
Their favorite thing? Wrestling each other for toys and then crashing together for naps in a big fuzzy pile.
Enrique and Beto still have a bit of growing to do before they’re ready for adoption, but they’re in no rush. Right now, they’re busy living their best puppy lives full of cuddles and playtime.
Vaccines are coming soon, and so are forever families. But until then, these little survivors are soaking up every cuddle and every ounce of love their rescuers give.
Enrique and Beto were tossed away like trash. But now? They’re treated like the treasures they truly are.
