Brooklyn Man Hears Strange Noises And Finds Abandoned Kitten In Basement
Sam had just returned from a long day of exploring caves and was ready to finally unwind, but fate had something else in store.
From somewhere near his home came unusual noises — faint, desperate meows echoing from an abandoned basement. His curiosity piqued, he hurried over to take a closer look.
As he stepped inside, the cries grew sharper and more urgent, leading him to a discovery that stopped him in his tracks.
Following the sound, Sam soon spotted a tiny ball of fur, no larger than a small loaf of bread. The helpless kitten was crying out, pleading for someone to notice and help. Sam’s friend, Delilah, later shared in an interview:
“We think she was born there, and her mom was weaning her, but she was too tiny to figure out how to get out of the basement.”
Unable to turn a blind eye to the tiny kitten in need, and with no sign of the mama cat, Sam gently scooped her up, ready to give her all the help she needed.
Delilah contacted her rescue, Whiskers-a-GoGo in Brooklyn, and with their help, she welcomed the kitten as her 49th foster.
They affectionately named the kitten Umami and began helping her thrive. She said:
“I am grateful to Whiskers-a-Gogo for not hesitating to take on Umami and to Sam for asking me for my help, Umami was fearless and leaned into cuddles immediately.”
Umami quickly settled into her foster home and began showing her true personality, which turned out to be larger than life. Delilah added:
“She’s a very funny and charming cat who enjoys getting into classic goofy kitten hijinks. She loves noisy toys, has a bottomless appetite, and wants to be wherever you are.”
In her foster home, Umami filled her days with playful bursts of energy, darting around the room in happy zoomies. But her favorite spot of all was nestled inside her foster mom’s hoodie, where she’d curl up and drift off to sleep.
Sooner than expected, Umami was ready to meet the resident animals. Despite her tiny size, she showed everyone who’s in charge, and her presence always filled the room.
Umami truly blossomed, and this was just the beginning of her happily ever after. With her adventurous yet loving spirit, she continued to explore the world and capture everyone’s hearts. Delilah added:
“At the end of the day, she always loved to stay close to me like a lovely little shadow.”
She gets along with everyone in her foster home, including the resident dog. Delilah said:
“She loves to play with my dog’s ears and tail, and after she left quarantine, she fearlessly has been pouncing on my much older and bigger cat. It’s been about five weeks of non-stop fun with the cutest little girl I have ever seen.”
From being left all alone in an abandoned basement, Umami quickly became a confident little kitten who’s more than ready to see what the future holds.
With her sweet nature and lively spirit, it’s only a matter of time before she wins over the right person and begins the happy life she’s meant to have.
