Stray Cat In New York Finds A Cozy Spot In Stranger’s Car And Refuses To Leave

Recently, Caitlin — a teacher and volunteer with Little Wanderers NYC — found herself in a situation she never could have anticipated.

On her way home from school, she spotted a black and white cat in the middle of the expressway, darting about in search of safety.

The sight made her heart race. She knew she couldn’t just drive past. After signaling for other cars to slow, she pulled over, ready to try and catch the frightened animal.

What she didn’t realize was that the rescue would turn out to be far simpler than she expected…

When the traffic had eased, Caitlin gently coaxed the cat toward her car. To her surprise, the feline didn’t resist — she hopped right in and pressed herself against Caitlin, almost as if to say thank you.

Later named Hendricks, the cat was understandably shaken by her ordeal. But it only took a few quiet minutes in the car before she began to settle, finding comfort in her rescuer’s presence.

Hendricks took some time to explore the car, then settled comfortably in the driver’s seat and later curled up in Caitlin’s lap. She shared in an interview:

“Hendricks went into her car like she belonged there.”

Caitlin’s heart warmed as Hendricks melted into her arms. She then took the cat to the vet for the necessary care.

No one could say for sure what Hendricks had experienced or how long she’d been surviving on her own, but the raw, injured pads of her paws told a story of hardship.

Yet, in spite of it all, she remained gentle and affectionate. The rescue team suspected she had once belonged to someone, only to be left behind.

Her behavior made it clear — she never shied away from Caitlin and seemed to crave her attention, leaning in for affection whenever she could.

While Hendricks napped peacefully in Caitlin’s lap, Caitlin spoke with the director of Little Wanderers NYC. Thankfully, they agreed to take Hendricks in and give her a chance at a better life.

That’s when her true transformation began. Hendricks was fully vetted, spayed, and treated for her injuries.

Thanks to the volunteers at the rescue, she was placed in a foster home. She finally had a warm place to stay, plenty of delicious food, and fresh water.

She was happy to have a safe home after so long, but there was still one thing missing – her forever human.

However, that didn’t go unnoticed. The rescuers decided to put an end to Hendricks’ wandering days.

They are determined to find her a forever home — a place where she will be cherished for exactly who she is.

It’s hard to imagine it taking long; Hendricks has the kind of charm that can win anyone over. She’s a sweet, affectionate cat that any pet parent would be lucky to call their own.

Until that day comes, she’s making the most of her time in foster care, soaking up belly rubs and all the love she can get.
