Dallas Shelter Dog Was Just Hours From Euthanasia, Then Someone Realized Who She Really Was

Years after adopting her goofy, one-of-a-kind pup named Buddy, this dog mom thought her little family was complete.
Buddy, with his floppy ears and soulful eyes, had been by her side through thick and thin. He was part shar-pei, part German shepherd, part rottweiler, and all heart.
From the moment she brought him home, they’d been inseparable. It was just the two of them, and that felt perfect. But fate had something else in mind.

One day, while scrolling through social media, she stumbled across a photo that made her pause.
It was a post from Dallas Animal Services, showing a scared dog on the euthanasia list, pleading for a second chance.
And that face looked so familiar, it gave her chills. The same eyes, same worried brow… it was like looking at Buddy all over again.

She couldn’t look away. Something deep inside told her to act. She reached out to the shelter, and what she learned next changed everything…
That scared little girl in the photo? Her name was Candy. And she wasn’t just a look-alike.
She was Buddy’s sister.

Buddy and Candy had started life together at that very same shelter. While Buddy was adopted, Candy had ended up with a different family, as Buddy’s mom shared on Reddit:
“She was my dog’s littermate. I adopted my dog buddy when he was a puppy, and Candy got adopted by another family. In December, they surrendered her to DAS.”
But now, years later, Candy had been surrendered and was facing an uncertain future. That thought shattered Buddy’s mom. She told the shelter she was coming for her.

Candy was a mess when they met. Her head was low, her tail didn’t even twitch, as her new mom shared:
“She was so scared when I first picked her up. [She] ducked her head, never wagged her tail. You could just tell how hard she’s had it.”
She had spent most of her life outside and was heartworm positive, too. But none of that mattered to her new mom. Candy was family now, and she was going home.

The ride back was quiet. Candy didn’t know what to think. So much had changed in a matter of hours. But then… she saw Buddy.
The second their eyes met, everything shifted. Something deep in both of them lit up. There was no hesitation; they knew each other.
It was like their hearts had been waiting for this moment, like watching a pair of puzzle pieces click into place.

In just a few days, Candy began to bloom. Her tail started wagging, and she chased Buddy around the yard. She trusted again.
Now, the two are inseparable once more. All those years apart? It’s like they never happened.
They nap together, eat together, and even get the zoomies together. It’s pure joy. Buddy and Candy are home now, together, right where they belong.
