North Carolina Shelter Shares “The World’s Worst Cat” And Her Adoption Post Is Priceless

We all know that cats each have their own distinct personalities, and when people are looking to adopt, they often try to find a cat that’s the right fit for them.
But what if you came across an adoption listing for “the world’s worst cat”? What would you do?
Let me introduce you to Perdita, a cat who earned the title of “the world’s worst cat” from her shelter.
Her story started when she was brought to a North Carolina animal shelter after her owner sadly passed away.

At the time, Perdita was a healthy, beautiful four-year-old cat. What the shelter staff didn’t know, however, was that she was about to give them more trouble than they ever expected.
Soon after arriving at Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Perdita showed to have a fiery temperament. She didn’t like to be bothered a lot, and she wasn’t afraid of showing that.

Whenever Perdita got annoyed, she didn’t hesitate to let everyone know with her sharp claws.
But don’t misunderstand her — she wasn’t opposed to affection, she just preferred it on her own terms.
Perdita needed a special person, someone who understood her independent nature, since most people shy away from adopting cats with a bit of an attitude.
Still, the staff was determined to give it their best shot and find Perdita the forever home she deserved.

The shelter decided to be upfront about Perdita’s temperament and posted a description that said:
“Meet Perdita, not for the faint of heart. LIKES: staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again; the song Cat Scratch Fever, the movie Pet Cemetery (Church is her hero), jump scares (her specialty), lurking in dark corners, being queen of her domicile, fooling shelter staff into thinking she’s sick (vet agrees… she’s just a jerk). DISLIKES: the color pink, kittens (yuk they are so chipper), dogs, children, the Dixie Chicks, Disney movies, Christmas, and last but NOT least… HUGS. She’s single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space. FREE ADOPTION.”
And they did something even more amazing – whoever adopted Perdita wouldn’t have to pay the adoption fee.

To everyone’s surprise, this candid and somewhat humorous description worked wonders.
People responded with compassion for Perdita, and some even expressed interest in adopting her.
After all, every cat deserves a loving home and someone to care for them, even those with a strong personality like Perdita.

After the post went live, the shelter was overwhelmed with over 100 adoption applications for Perdita.
They were amazed at how many people were passionate about giving her a chance and ensuring she wouldn’t end up homeless because of her strong personality.
Perdita’s story spread so widely that even Access Hollywood featured her, which was a testament to how much her journey resonated with people everywhere.
Despite her fiery nature, there was always someone out there who was meant to be her perfect match.
She deserved a loving home, and it was clear that her story had touched the hearts of many who believed that every cat, no matter their temperament, deserves a chance at happiness.

Thanks to Mitchell County Animal Rescue and the professional staff, Perdita’s story has a happy ending.
The shelter shared that Perdita found her forever home and that her new name is Noel. They wrote in a post:
“Today is a bittersweet day. Perdita has brought so much joy to the staff here at MCAR. We have loved getting to know her and watching her come out of her slappy shell. Today she went to her forever home with Joe and Betty from Monroe County, TN. They adore her and she tolerates them. She wouldn’t let us take adoption photos in our photo booth, she just growled and ran out of the room. She was in a hurry to get home, where she will have her own private bedroom to stay until she is ready to transition to the rest of the home. Then she will have access to the many catwalks, indoor trees, enclosed cattery, and cat pond. Seriously, I want to live there. Joe and Betty have decided to change her name to Noel, just in case the name Perdita is the cause of her anger…”

I’m happy with how things turned out for Perdita.
After everything she has been through, and with the right humans by her side, I’m sure Perdita will quickly go from the “world’s worst cat” to the “world’s best cat”!
