Newborn Kitten From California Fights A Dangerous Virus After Being Shoved Into A Tissue Box

Meet the incredible foster hero Hannah Shaw, famously known as the Kitten Lady. 

She’s devoted to caring for neonatal kittens, the tiniest ones who require round-the-clock attention and delicate care.

One day, Hannah got a call from an animal control officer about a helpless kitten who had been abandoned. 

The fragile little one had been stuffed inside an empty tissue box and left there, waiting for its life to slip away.

Hannah hurried to rescue the kitten, determined to give her the safest and most nurturing foster home possible. 

But when she finally laid eyes on the fragile little fluffball, she quickly realized just how severe her condition truly was.

The newborn kitten was covered in fleas, they were crawling all around her tiny face. Hannah brought the kitten home and named her Hank, ready to fight with the fleas, as she mentioned:

“It’s like fighting a war against little aliens!”

In the days that followed, the tiny kitten – now named Hank – developed another challenge. Despite her eyes not yet being open, she came down with a painful eye infection.

Hannah carefully treated the infection, and before long, Hank’s eyes opened for the very first time. 

But when Hannah was later scheduled to travel to New York for a workshop, she knew she couldn’t simply leave Hank behind.

The little ginger fluffball joined Hannah on her trip to New York, snoozing quietly in her arms while she gave a talk. 

In the audience sat a shelter worker who, half-jokingly, suggested Hannah take three kittens back with her from their shelter.

That lighthearted comment sparked an idea. Hannah decided to pair Hank with one kitten from the litter, hoping a companion would encourage her to grow into a playful, social kitty.

But just as things were looking bright for Hank, a dangerous illness appeared, threatening to undo all the progress she had made.

Not long after the new kitten, named Kodiak, arrived at Hannah’s home, Hank began showing unusual behavior. 

Hannah sensed immediately that something wasn’t right and knew she had to act quickly to rule out the worst-case scenario.

She tested Hank for panleukopenia, which according to PetMD could be fatal. As she said in the video:

“So I gave her a test thinking, totally, she would not have it. And then it came up positive…”

The news was heartbreaking for Hannah. The virus targeted the digestive system and was dangerously contagious, leaving her no choice but to separate Hank from little Kodiak. 

As she cared for them apart, she couldn’t help but wonder if the two kittens would ever be able to share a life together again.

However, Hannah was determined to save Hank. She dedicated every minute of her day to Hank, carefully monitoring every change. As she shared:

“It was a battle. It feels like you’re in a war with this virus. Every time the virus makes a move, you have to make a counter move.”

This virus tends to dehydrate kittens, so Hannah made sure to supply Hank with a lot of fluids. Shortly after, our tiny fighter started showing signs of improvement. As Hannah mentioned:

“Then she got her first solid poop. Maybe it sounds insane to celebrate a solid poop, but, like, kitten’s poop, basically, tells you how they’re doing inside.”

As Hank struggled through her fight with panleukopenia, her best friend Kodiak was adopted. Sadly, the match didn’t last, and her new owner returned her not long after.

At first, Hannah felt upset about it, but soon she realized it was a blessing in disguise – the two little fluffballs would be together again. 

This time, she was determined that Hank and Kodiak would find a home as a pair. And it was clear why. 

The two kittens were inseparable, bringing out the very best in one another and creating a bond that felt just like sisterhood.

Fortunately, a kind woman named Fawnia stepped forward, ready to open her heart and home to both Hank and Kodiak. 

Hannah was overjoyed knowing the two would remain together, though saying goodbye was bittersweet and brought plenty of tears.

Because of Kitten Lady’s dedication, Hank and Kodi now share a wonderful life filled with affection, comfort, and endless cuddles.
