Indiana Woman Caught Off Guard When A Feisty Kitten Peeks Out From Beneath The Trash Cans

This tiny ball of fluff suddenly peeked out from beneath the trash cans, catching Cass completely off guard. 

She hadn’t expected to find a kitten there at all, let alone one so small yet so full of spunk. 

With wide eyes and a determined little stance, the kitten made it clear she wasn’t going to be approached easily. 

Cass stood there, unsure how to win over such a fierce, scrappy soul, but she knew she had to try.

Cass shared in a video: 

“I don’t even think he had seen a human before, let alone being touched by one.”

The kitten was absolutely terrified, hissing nonstop and even giving Cass a few bites as she tried to scoop him up and bring him inside. 

In the end, she managed to get him safely indoors, but judging by his reaction, he was anything but pleased about it.

Cass ended up using a crate just for him to get more used to the light and his new environment. Cass added: 

“He’d never been inside before, so everything was brand new for him.”

This tiny gray fluff ball quickly proved to be the most spirited kitten Cass had ever taken in. Mealtimes were especially difficult – he was frightened, constantly hissing, and determined to defend himself at all costs. 

The only way Cass could manage to feed him was by gently swaddling him in a blanket like a little burrito, keeping his sharp claws at bay. Cass explained:

“The only way that I could feed him was getting him into a blanket and wrapping him like a burrito so his little murder mittens wouldn’t come out and try to scratch me.”

For nearly five days, Cass had to bundle him up before he’d touch any food. At one point, she even resorted to using a measuring cup to get him to eat – and surprisingly, it worked. 

Slowly but surely, the kitten began to trust her, at least when it came to mealtime.

Once tucked into his little burrito blanket, the kitten started to feel secure and began to understand that he was safe. Warm, cozy, and with a full belly, his fear slowly began to ease. 

Before long, he even licked some food straight from Cass’s finger, a small victory that filled her with joy. Encouraged, she offered him food on a plate – and to her delight, he went for it!

After six days of burrito blankets and hand-feeding, the kitten finally started eating on his own. Cass said

“It took almost six days for me to be able to get him to eat out of an actual bowl and not hand-feed him.”

Once the kitten understood that Cass was just trying to keep him warm and fed, he completely changed. Cass won his trust, and he was on the path to a new life. She added:

“The biggest turning point was the day we got a cat hoodie that had a little pocket for him to go into.”

When she put him in the hoodie pocket, he felt all the love and warmth, and for the first time, he meowed instead of hissing. Cass said:

“It wasn’t a hiss, it was an actual meow.”

And that’s how this once frightened, abandoned kitten blossomed from a hissing ball of nerves into a joyful little bundle of happiness.

Cass was amazed by the progress and knew he’d find a forever home easily. She said:

“Once we got more comfortable, we were watching him be on the bed and play for the first time. He let me give him pets without freaking out too badly. It’s indescribable to gain the trust of a cat.”

Cass named him Church and was so thankful he accepted her. 

Though she couldn’t keep him, even though he stole her heart, she shared his story online, and many people wanted to adopt sweet, little Church. Cass added:

“One girl was persistent. I knew that she was the one.”

Church’s new parents drove hours to pick him up. He wasn’t scared at all when they arrived, immediately cuddling up to the girl and falling asleep. Cass concluded:

“This was it. This was what was meant to be.”

With Cass’s patience and determination, this once fearful kitten blossomed into a loving companion, eventually finding a forever home and a family to cherish him.
